A couple of PlusPoints data points:

I had applied a RPU for Ms. 1K for her flight 12/3. It didn’t clear but it was not immediately redeposited. I called the 1K line this morning, was transferred to the “1K service desk” where the agent immediately deposited 20 PlusPoints to my account.

More concerning, I am flying ORD-SFO-AKL-SFO-ORD next week. I applied GPUs at booking. The overwater segments cleared immediately and the domestic segments were waitlisted. As of this morning, the SFO-ORD segment now shows as “CPU eligible.” The “Upgrade cabin” option is available, requesting 20 PlusPoints to waitlist for First (or buy up to First for $533). Another call to the 1K line and the agent said I am still waitlisted, no need to use more points. Who to believe, the agent or the app? The only reason I can think of for the confusion is that my layover at SFO is 17 hours.

Interesting! Here are two data points:
I tried to upgrade NRT-HNL-LAX-SFO-YYZ with 20 PPs (only Premium Plus for NRT-HNL). The system asked for 40 PPs because there was a schedule change for LAX-SFO. That is, it was treated as two separate trips (with LAX-SFO missing) when I first tried to upgrade. So, I went back to my reservation and accepted the schedule change. Afterwards, I needed only pay 20 PPs for the same itinerary.

The “upgrade - waitlisted’ display is consistent for all my requests except for one that my friend did for me. For this particular flight, there are Premium Plus and Polaris cabins. I told him to request upgrades for both cabins. The extra segment for Polaris is displayed as “This flight segment is waitlisted.” I do not know whether or not this display means that upgrades for both cabins have been requested or just a glitch.

Thats exactly what I have for a double request for PP and J

Should be 40 PlusPoints, are displayed in your Account Summary (at the bottom at sign-on and when you go to the full Account Summary, at the top).

I have a reservation with a cleared GPU. It still shows upgrade confirmed but does not show up on the PP summary / deducted overview. I am a bit concerned as theGPUs were pulled and converted into PP

After 25 mins wait to Mileage Plus desk, United told me that they never deposited my RPUs after I had cancelled earlier flights. So they finally fixed the issue, and it shows my Plus Point balance.

So question about using plus points (although this question would apply to GPU). For determining availability using 40 points to J from Y (assuming W or higher fare) how does one determine availability?

Say routing is AAA-BBB-CCC-DDD-EEE, and AAA-BBB is on SN (ie non upgradeable) but the rest is all on UA metal where BBB-CCC is TATL, how do I determine PZ availability?

Searching AAA-EEE in expert mode shows the UA segments with 0 PN, but if I search BBB-CCC I show PZ9. Can I search point to point for individual leg availability? Does married segment availability apply for everything? Just the US metal?

So, I thought you would be able to pay more points to confirm an upgrade that wouldn't normally be available. I am not seeing that option. What fare bucket would the "pay more points" option be for a GS?

Also - does it already have to be ticketed to do this or can you see this before booking?

Yes, each segment individually

No, any segment with PZ will clear (and meeting fare requirements if any)

Just UA metal, partner metal does not have / used PZ/PN. They generally use a subset of I.

Question on expiration. I've got some GPU's / now PointsPlus that expire on 1/31/2020. I have a flight on 1/31/2020 that I want to use them on. When I requested I got a message indicating they may expire before I travel?

Is this correct? To they expire and disappear once the clock strikes midnight and it changes from Jan 30 to Jan 31? It was my understanding I could still use them THROUGH Jan 31 and the disappear Feb 1.

Thanks!

Must be a(nother) bug with the rollout. I used a GPU expiring on 1/31/19 on 1/31/19.

You should be able to use expiring PlusPoints up to a scheduled departure prior to midnight (local time) on the 31st. This issue has been reported in another thread and the poster was waiting to hear back from the agents on addressing this error. Try calling.

Does your flight arrive on the 31st or 1st?

That feature doesn't yet seem to be available, and nobody knows what fare bucket they would be in, or even if the feature will exist for GS members (one theory is that it will use PN inventory, which GS members can already access at regular price).

I was thinking the same thing regarding PN fare bucket or some new similar fare bucket that has inventory equal to or less than PN, as I would prefer that GS still get priority for their instruments (even though I'm losing GS next year). This is the only way it makes sense and stays fair to those that earn GS status.

GS could get ZN while 1K get PN, or GS could get JN (yeah... not happening) while 1K get ZN, something like that.

Or they may not have thought this all the way through. :)
