What if this was a 2 flight itinerary and PZ cleared on one of the legs. Does that automatically remove the second flight from the Premium plus waitlist? ( I cannot recollect any mention of mixed class upgrades).

I'm sure that there is a thread dedicated to pluspoints somewhere but I can't find it.
I have pluspoints expiring in June that I will not get a chance to use. Can I use them to upgrade a friend of mine? Also, what exactly is the expiration date? Is it the date you have to request by, the date they have to clear by, or the date you have to fly by? |

The upgrade page for my flight in economy from SFO-FRA is showing 80 PlusPoints to upgrade to Polaris instead of 40? Is it based on the fare that was purchased, or why would it be twice the regular amount of PlusPoints?

You need to upgrade your fare to W class to use 40 points. Try change flight and then advanced search and specify W as the filter for fare class. It may not be much to move to W.

I have searched but not found the answer. If a reservation has been upgraded and the plus points deducted, what happens to the plus points if I cancel the reservation?

On the rare occasion that they don't, it's usually been on an itinerary that has had a lot of previous changes, although that could be coincidental. In those cases, I just called in to get them redeposited with no problem. Above assumes you're not referring to a Skip Waitlist upgrade. |
What’s the policy on a premium economy ticket with some segments in economy due to domestic portion not having Premium plus?
for example. I have a ticket from SFO to HNL to GUM (okay technically all USA). SFO to HNL booked in B and HNL to GUM booked in R. But when I go upgrade, it will only let me select R to upgrade and B segment is greyed out. the B segment does state eligible for CPU although I thought as a premier member, Y/B can be instant, if available. |
Is anyone else having trouble waitlisting for upgrades with PP? I'm GS on an award ticket. My itineraries say they are not available for upgrade when i click the link to upgrade. I tried calling yesterday and the agent said there was an issue with the system. Tried again today and no dice again. These points are beyond useless.

In my experience, they almost always get automatically redeposited.

Weird issue with (PlusPoints) upgrades today -
Booked CDG-EWR-LAX. Transatlantic leg is in R PremiumPlus and transcon leg is in B regular economy. When I tried to do PlusPoints requests, only business option is available for EWR-LAX. Tweeting to United doesn’t provide much of a resolution- other than being told these are paired segments (wrong) or no PremiumPlus is sold (also wrong.) 🤷🏻♂️ Seems like the system thinks that I’m in prem econ for EWR-LAX? Any ideas? Probably related to Instant Upgrade and the not-true-B-fare issue? [Edit] purposely booked in B since the difference of booking everything in R is about $500 higher. EWR-LAX runs on a 789 with PE cabin. |

Do not apply PlusPoints or mileage upgrades to a waitlisted Instant Upgrade (GS & 1Ks) -- Instant Upgrades are a higher priority and applying the instruments will downgrade the request to solely an instrument upgrade. PremPlus tickets show "B" fare (but underlying fare may be lower) for non-PremPlus flights and there are reports this may not always be recognized for Instant Upgrades. |

I'd suggest calling in and asking to be rebooked into R on EWR-LAX, without needing any PlusPoints, on account of you having booked a PE fare and PE now being available for sale. You can then apply 30 PlusPoints to waitlist/upgrade the entire CDG-LAX itinerary to J if you'd like. |

Do you remember if the EWR-LAX aircraft had a separate PE cabin at the time you booked? I suspect it didn't, which is how you ended up in B instead of R. There could have then been an aircraft swap to one with a PE cabin, and UA's system isn't properly recognizing this and allowing you to apply PlusPoints to upgrade to PE.
