Am I out of luck here? Co worker of mine threw PlusPoints at the returning segment of an itinerary that cleared instantly.
Yesterday I called in to change the outbound segment because of omicron restrictions, and specifically told them keep the return segment intact which they told me they have the power to do. I didn’t make the change online myself because I could risk losing that upgrade. Anyways agent reissued ticket but when I got the ticket in my email, return journey PlusPoints upgrades were wiped. I could easily message co worker but problem is that he is in Africa right now where connection is very spotty and I’m unable to get in touch. Is there no way an agent can undo this since this was their doing? I tried with 2 agents and no luck. Thanks. |
Can someone point me where I can confirm how many PPs are expiring when... Or did UA gift everyone a PP extension?
I have (or rather had) PPs expiring 1/31/22, 7/30/22, and 1/31/23 and reflected that way last week when I was doing some upgrade gifting for family members...when I looked at it today (after prompting by Aussienarelle ) everywhere I'm looking shows the entire balance expiring 1/31/23 (This is on the panel on the side of desktop ua.com, in the upgrades section of the Android app and under my account) |

They extended many peoples' points though 2023-Jan. The prevailing theory is that it was done for anyone who qualified for 1K? or some status? this year.

That would make sense -- I requalified for 1K around July IIRC -- just surprised that I haden't seen/heard anything from UA directly or indirectly (though real life has kept me mostly off the forum for the past couple weeks)

What's the latest on only domestic portion clearing? It reads to me like that burns the points but I've had a few people tell me if they call if they have gotten a refund?
Thanks! |

You are out of luck. Yes, it cane be done, but you need an agent willing/able to do this. If you get one telling you it can't be done then you need to HUCA. It sounds like the agent told you it was fine and now it is not ... that sucks. Since the +Ps are not from your account there isn't much you can do. You will have to ask your friend to re-apply the +Ps.

Cannot cancel PlusPoint upgrade request on a cancelled flight
I am a United 1K member. I cancelled a flight within a couple of hours of booking it. But I cannot cancel the PlusPoints deducted for the upgrade I requested for that cancelled flight. This was back on December 6. I called United 1K customer service on December 13 and the person I spoke was new and kept telling me that I did not have any points deducted. Since the flight did not take place, the points are not deducted of course, but it is counted towards "requested" in my account and when I click on my requests, I still see the cancelled flight with 70 PlusPoints used to request an upgrade. The problem is that my points will expire before that cancelled flight will take place, and I fear I will not be able to use my PlusPoints once they are automatically released (assuming that happens because I will not be able to take a cancelled flight and hence I will not be able to upgrade).
I wrote an email to [email protected] on December 14 which was acknowledged but still no response. Any suggestions? |
You can request more upgrades than available PlusPoints, so the agent was correct -- PlusPoints are not consumed by waitlisted requests, just if they actually clear. So go ahead and make additional requests, the cancelled flight will not restrict you and it will eventually clear out.
|
Oh I see. Thank you very much.
|
I explained the similar situation to my colleague. Waitlisting of PPs is very different from that of GPU/RPU. The total amount of PPs available for upgrade requests is not reduced. So, if PP request fails, there is no PPs to be returned.

Try to cancel a waitlisted upgrade request, SFO-EWR.
However, I can't even find the PNR under "My Trips" "Plus Points Upgrades". Therefore, no way I can cancel it. Anyone has similar issues? |
