At T-30 hours, there were just 18 C and 16 C available respectively. 5 Outbound cleared (no status) around T-24 using my PP and 3 CPUs an hour later (2 of us are 1K). On the return flight, none of us was cleared. PP Wait list #2-#6, 1K CPU at #10-#13. Looking back, I should had upgrade our tickets from G-fare so we would had a better chance.

I'll continue to keep an eye and if starts to fill up, I'll buy up to a K fare (currently have G as well). TBH though, I'm not sure if it's worth the risk when I could just pay $100 to be seated in Y+ in premium plus seats for a 5hr day time flight to HNL. We shall see...

At T-86 hours, there were still 26 seats left on the red eye return and I thought for sure some of us would clear at WL#11-15 using PP.

1K agent: “For $350 per person, I can confirm their C-seat now.
Me: “I love my friends, but not $350 much!” Didn’t think quick enough to up the fare then….

As of paying $100 for the Premium Economy, I would keep an eye on it after the upgrade sweep. Most of us on the upgrade list are seated in this section for free.

In case you don’t know, you can see flight status and their upgrade list for flights up to day after tomorrow. Under UA app, in your trip section, you can see the upgrade list for an extra day out.

good luck!

I asked Twitter to make the change for me, and they said doing so would drop the confirmed upgrade, which does not match my recollection.

I have done this many times it has not resulted in dropping the confirmed upgrade. Per comments above you will definitely need to call the 1K desk but it should not be a problem.

How to cancel?

What's the process for canceling a PlusPoints request after submitting? Can I do that via web or app? Or do I need to call?

May need to make a call instead to hopefully get a 1K agent and be ready to HUCA if necessary.

Thanks, 1K desk indeed sorted it out. I'm fairly sure I've done just this type of change in the past, but my normally/previously good memory is failing me...

Glad you were able to get it taken care of via 1K desk.

Any lessons learned or recommendations for future reference for all Platinum/1K/GS FlyerTalkers in this post-era?

call 1K desk.

in my case, at T-32 hours of my connecting flight when I knew we had no chance to clear HNL-SFO, I called to remove the shorter connection that is already cleared into domestic first. The agent didn’t know if this was even possible being so close to departure (T-24 out of HNL). In either case, she was able to call her help line to remove my PP request on the 2nd segment.

This time I scheduled an upgrade from economy to PE as well as Polaris on the EWR-BOM sector.

However, some pax are lower down (*last*) on the PE waitlist, but ahead of me (I'm No. 3, he's No. 1) for Polaris!

How does that work?

It appears if you choose to upgrade to both PE & Polaris, then do you apparently lose out on a higher waitlist status in Polaris?

Are you sure it’s the same passenger? John Smith and Jeff Smisek would show up as the same on upgrade lists.

True, that's a possibility...although Smisek wouldn't be on an upgrade list! :p

However, would also appreciate feedback on the PE+Polaris vs. Polaris only upgrade scenario.

I thought the only way to rescind a successful +P upgrade (and get the points back) was to change or cancel the flight. Am I missing something here?

Most likely GS
On premium GS has no advantage, as everyone clears into RN, but Polaris is
GS=PN> 1K=PZ.. which is why he's #1

The waitlisting function for PE has been dysfunctional since day 1.

GS always have priority on the waitlist. Absent IT error, a GS will always list ahead of a 1K.

Question:

JFK-SFO and then same day return SFO-EWR (all on one ticket).

I can select PlusPoints option to waitlist on both flights; thereafter, however, only the outbound flight (JFK-SFO) has PP waitlist applied (20 points).

Going back to the upgrade cabin page, it now says "No upgrades available" (not even waitlist options).

How can I apply PP on both segments? Do I need to call UA?

Probably need to get a rep from UA to clear up what's hanging up your PP applications.
