I'd expect it to work like everything else at United. The PP's are not tagged as GS or 1K PP's. They are simply PP's. Your GS or 1K status only matters when you APPLY the PPs. So if you earn 320 as GS and apply them to a reservation as GS then you are waitlisted for PN. Assuming nothing changes with the reservation United can't be bothered "does current status equal applied status at time of PP application?" So you clear into PN, regardless of current status.
However, if you fall to 1K the following year and you somehow rollover a bunch of PPs and apply those PPs to a reservation then they are applied as "1K PPs" and you are waitlisted for PZ. This is no different than someone who earns 280 PPs for hitting 1K and then subsequently that year hits GS thanks to their big spend. All of the PPs applied after hitting GS become "GS PPs". I would suspect any PPs applied to reservations *before* the account is upgraded to GS are stuck waitlisted for PZ and would have to be withdrawn and re-applied to waitlist for PN thanks to GS status. -RM |
Hi all sorry for this rookie question.
Like most everyone else I have flown a lot less this last 2 years and lost my miles and points MOJO. So, my question is.... My plus points expire 1-31-2022 (also some that expire 1-31-2023 for some reason, but that's not the question)... Anyway... is that the date they need to be applied by or the date the flight needs to go by? in other words can I buy a ticket for next summer and apply the points that expire 1-31-2022?? I don't really see that addressed in the FAQ's... Thanks. And sorry (ducking) YTJK |

Date of travel. You won't be able to use your January, 2022 PlusPoints for a flight next summer.

I just completed my second international trip in a month and was able to use PlusPoints on both. In addition, J has gone out with lots of open seats on my flights (EU) ........

Has anyone applied PlusPoints to a reservation and have it clear as a Mileage Upgrade Award? I can’t tell what has happened and will double check when I get to a computer. It says my United PS NYC to SF upgrade cleared for myself and a companion. However, the app shows it as a MUA and the PlusPoints don’t seem to be gone from the PP owner’s account. Miles don’t seem to be missing either (though I’m not exactly where I should search for this).

Whats op up? It’s JFK to LAX on a 767-300.
If Y/coach is oversold that's a strong indicator. |

Usually yes. However I had it happened before, were u/g cleared but points were not pulled. Systems-glitch or surprise & delight I do not know .......

Yes, as mentioned, that does happen, but that is not an "op-up", that is a glitch in your favor.
In any case congrats to "WasKnown" if it turns out in his favor! :tu: |

This is known to happen in case of a reschedule or other change to the original itinerary -- some sort of miscoding of the ticket. Sometimes UA will catch the error and corrected it, sometimes you might get a freebie -- very rare, but not unknown.
Unlikely, upgrade list would be cleared first I just don’t want to be charged miles. These PlusPoints are useless anyway so I don’t care if United takes them. It is fitting that the one time I thought my 1K PlusPoints cleared for something that wasn’t domestic first, I end up not even being charged the PlusPoints…… I called United about this and they have no clue what happened. They’re going to call me back and let me know what they find but I’m not optimistic they will figure it out. I just want to burn these PlusPoints and move on lol. I’m worried they will come back in a month and try to take miles out of my account instead. Is that a credible fear or am I being anxious over nothing? |

With you having called, it should get resolved. I'm not sure I would have bothered to call since if the miles did get withdrawn (very unlikely IMO) then a call at that time could have gotten it fixed. With the change that PlusPoints are not withdrawn at the time of application, UA has created the potential of this problem. Even in the prior system, there were times where GPUs were not withdrawn and sometimes the upgrades still occurred. The antiquated nature of the IT systems are fraught with these occasional issues. |
