Oh, don't get me wrong -- it's not that I think that there's anything wrong with S in particular, or with buying the least expensive fare available. It's just unusual that the least expensive fare would have been S in particular for that many people -- not T or K or L, but specifically S.

We also always have back-up reservations on other carriers for our international flights in case our PPs don't clear. Then, we can cancel the UA flights for FFC and take the backups in J.

Keep in mind that UA monitors this forum. That's not something I'd repeat. :)

Since I'd have no way of knowing what the fares that cleared ahead of my wife were, it's possible that other fare classes were involved. I.e. there could've been misroutes/misconnects/SDCs that were added at the last minute with higher fare classes. S was the only upgradeable discount fare offered when we purchased the tickets.

But that's the thing -- since you and your wife were both 1Ks on S fares, the only people that should have been able to get between you on the list are other 1Ks with S fares. Everyone else would be either ahead of both of you or behind both of you, because that would have been decided at an earlier tiebreaker. (GS is tiebreaker #1; #2 is CPU vs instruments, which doesn't apply here; then it's status #3 and fare class #4).

The referenced behavior wouldn’t be as necessary if UA offered more PZ at booking. ;)

PlusPoints Expiry

I have PP listed as “Expire 11/01/23” and despite a few calls to United I can’t get an answer. Can these be used for a 11/1 TATL flight or so they expire on 10/31 and not good on 11/1?

Schedule departure must be before the expiration . But is usable on the expiration day.

Easy test, if available / visible to apply on a flight, they are good.

Interesting date on the PlusPoint, how did you get one with that date.

...a rather generous extension of 200+ PP that were originally expiring in July.

How do you all value Plus Points? I have the option of upfaring from L --> W (and save 40 plus points on my upgrade request) for $200. Would you do that? I have a few TATL flights next year, so having those 40 points to upgrade an additional flight seems to outweigh the $200 cost.

I only just made 1K for the first time and have no experience using Plus Points, so unsure how to think about the trade off here, and the likelihood of the 40 Plus Points I would save to actually clear next year. Any thoughts from more experienced 1Ks?

If you are certain you will use the 40 +P on something else, that's a decent proposition for someone with 320 +P total. But if you're saving them with only vague hopes of another option to use them, not a great idea. And furthermore, if you're upfaring from L to W without PZ already open, that's a flat out bad idea.

Resetting 'Upgrade Skipped (insufficient credits)'

Should I be worried that a waitlisted PP upgrade shows Upgrade Skipped (insufficient credits) even after I reapplied the upgrade (and now I have credits)?

wow, I am surprised that they didn’t extend any of mine; I thought I had a good reason!

Applying more PP after PP upgrade

I have an upcoming ogg den ord flight
I just got my pp ug on ogg to den
didn’t want to waste on the short den ord
if I try to apply now, and they clear - will it still count as just 20 for both segments?

I think I know but want to confirm

Kmxu Oct 27, 2023 4:57 am

Additional 20 PPs will be taken from your account. You can rebook the reservation and re-request upgrades for both flights to avoid the additional PPs. But most likely, you will waitlist for the longer flight.

if the warning does not go away in a day or two, call UA reservation to clean it up. I won’t gamble on it.
