If I change my flight (4 days out), not cancel and rebook, but just go through the change option, do applied PlusPoints drop from the reservation?

PlusPoints from Another Member - Doesn't Work?
I'm out of PlusPoints for the year. My G/S brother wanted to apply his PlusPoints to a flight from SFO/MNL for me.
He logs in to his account, pulls up my reservation using the reservation number, but there is no option to apply PlusPoints to ANY of the flights. Not even to waitlist one. This isn't the first time I've seen this anomaly. Is this just a problem with the website? |

When you clear to PP but have also requested for J, it deducts the full J amount as soon as any part of the upgrade clear, and then is supposed to recredit back if you don't make it to J.
To answer the original question: it is supposed to be done automatically at the completion of the line-of-flight. In my experience, any type of IRROPs or change to the itinerary (including buy ups on other flights) often results in the automation breaking as it can no longer interpret what was flown against the request and if it's been more than 72 hours without the partial redeposit you will probably need to call in to MPSC for them to manually process it. |

Does getting UG'd to P+ with PPs decrease your odds of getting Polaris? The reason I ask is that I booked my wife and I on separate PNRs to TYO (S-fare plus 80 points-she was waitlisted for both cabins) and, about a month before our travel date, she got UG'd to P+. I never applied for the P+ option, waitlisting only for Polaris. I figured that she would have higher UG priority (we are both spend 1Ks) because she was in P+ already but, at the gate on the day of travel, I was UG'd to Polaris and she was left in P+.There were a total of 8 UGs to Polaris (I was number 5 on the list).
In any case, let us know how you fare on your two trips where you requested both upgrades. I'd love to be able to do that and not be concerned that I may have lowered my chances for Polaris... |

I saw a post on a Facebook forum from a person who said he's always been suspicious that being on the upgrade list for both cabins somehow impairs your chances of being upgraded to business. I am too as I think that happened to me.

I've seen absolutely no evidence of that, and quite a bit of evidence to the contrary.

How often have you done it? I definitely felt that I might have gotten it on my international trip if I hadn't requested both but I'll never know for sure.. . I haven't requested both since that experience.
You don't have to take our data points, but in parallel, you also shouldn't trust some FB posts. Test out yourself. |

That said, I have puzzled out the upgrade list frequently enough that I think I have a pretty good feel for how it works, and I have yet to observe any penalty for having a P+ upgrade on the request, cleared or otherwise. I'm with WineCountryUA -- what happened that makes you think something different? |
Hi Guys,
Bought a K class fare for ORD FRA tomorrow. At the time applied Plus Points for both Premium Economy and Polaris upgrade. Today, did Day of Departure buy up during online check in to Premium Economy. It put me into O class, and I jumped to top of the list for Polaris upgrade. Under the "View Your Itinerary" leg it still says "waitlist" under upgrade with the blue symbol like normal. However, under the "My Trips" --> "Plus Points Upgrade" screen it shows 80 requested. This is the first time I have used Plus Points for long haul travel this way. I thought I remember something about when you buy up to new class of service you have to redo the Plus Points upgrade request. Is that true or am I (probably) remembering incorrectly? Either way, I'm still #1 under Flight Status - Polaris Upgrades so I am inclined to do nothing and if I clear into J and it takes the wrong amount from me I'll just call in. Thoughts? Thanks all! |
Good approach to me. Just take some screenshots to document your purchased "O" ticket. Good luck.

I have seen people use this as a strategy...apply plus points ..see where you are on the list a few days out. If the upgrade doesn't look like, buy up to P+ to jump to the top of the list to ensure you clear.

Did I get lucky getting DOD into "O" ? I seem to recall some sort of inconsistent DOD up-faring. I checked another flight I have in April AMS ORD. Got award Y (think it was XN) and paid for cash upgrade offer to Premium Economy and got R. K - O for $300. XN - R for $345. Is the difference just in award vs revenue base fare? Just curious. Thanks! EDIT--What would I need the documentation for? I have PDFs of O fare class and me #1 on UG list...but what situation would I potentially need them? |
