Talked to two 1K agents so far, who were caught off-guard by it, as you can only make those upgrade requests online.

Edit: The agent said that the online form is broken, and there is no other way to upgrade (agents can't do it). They've sent another FYI off about it, but there is nothing to do but wait right now for someone to fix the form.

Another good united perk gone. Who knows if it will come back...

There are enough devaluations that there's no reason to make up new ones. There's a difference between a devaluation and an IT glitch.

Delays in +P deductions?

It is my understanding that +P will be “deducted” as soon as the waitlisted upgrade clears. I had 40 points waitlisted for IAH-SYD last week which cleared around check in.

My “requested” total is back to 0 but the points were never deducted from my account. Has anyone else experienced a delay in having points deducted or did I just get lucky?

New MilagePlus Point system is a slap in the face - MAJOR issue

This does not make sense to me...... lets run some simple calculations and simulation..

Old scenario to reach 1k = 100.000k miles ( I live outside of US and was not effected by the PQD so i neeed 100.000 PQM )If i bought a Long haul business class tickets from I.e Europe to US at Z class (on United OR partner airlines) , ( lets say from Stockholm - LA) rountrip would give me apprx : 20.000 PQM /or more... that means i needed apprx 5x of thoose in a year to get 1k status.(100.000 PQM) ( cost was maybe 2500 usd each x 5 = 12.500 USD yearly apprx)

Now... i made a simulation if i buy a business class ticket roundtrip at 2500 USD Stockholm - LA i get 2500 PQP and 4 segments (!) ( Remember i need 24.000 PQP or 18.000 PQP + 54 Segments to get 1k)... HOW Does this make sense? I would need 10 x business class tickets, to reach 24.000 PQP ... and will have 40 segments (i.e spending 24.000 USD to achieve 1k )....

Conclusion... I will buy my tickets elsewhere... business lost and av 1k member moving to an other program....well done United..

Johan,

The problem is that you (and surely many others) were receiving benefits that United has deemed to be valued more than the profit United was able to earn from your transactions. United is a business and in the business of making a profit. It's really quite simple. Have they tipped the scales too far in their favor? Only time will tell.

Very likely that you get lucky.
Did you request upgrade within T-24?
Happy travels!

Sorry if this is a dumb question but can you use PlusPoints to get an upgrade when you have booked a flight using Award miles?
I just did so (booked a flight using Award) and it tells me it's ineligible for upgrade.

United has decided to cull the 1K membership of lower revenue flyers. Unfortunately you’re one of them.

Unless you are GS, no. You couldn’t upgrade award tickets under the old scheme either unless you were GS.

Thanks! This is the first time I've been beyond Gold so it's new territory for me. I'm glad these PlusPoints are valid for two years, could take me a while to get through them.

United is now saying that your free ride (i.e., without the requirement on PQD for international FFP members) is over. United killed PQM and PQS, as well as PQD. MileagePlus is a purely $$$$-based spend program. :(

I will be one of them in 2021 and intend to make the most of my 1K benefits in 2020.

I looked at flying *A in 2020 to make 1K in 2021 and then realized no point as I already have *G for life. I may as well use my 1K benefits while I have them.

I will go to OAL in 2021 as actively encouraged by United but not to earn 1K. I look for value for my personal dollar spend so it may be United, it may be *A, Skyteam, Oneworld or any OAL that will give me value for my spend.

United wants the customers to spend but provide fewer benefits or at least that is my assessment since flying *A you get few 1K benefits (like upgrades) except for LH or NH (although that seems broken). Irony of a FF program not based on miles. Should be changed from FF to High Spender(HS).

I await with interest what happens in 2021 for United and their FF/HS program.

Yeah, I think a lot of us are waiting to see if there is another shoe to be dropped.

I have more than 500.000 base miles on United over a few years as a milageplus member, You would think they would value that kind of client?

Here is the thing... the last year was requirements 12.500 PQD +100k miles ( even if it did not touch me) to get to 1k.(only needed miles)... Now they want you to go to 18 k PQD right ? but they ALSO want you to have 54 segments.. otherwise you need 24k PQP ... this is a funny and sneaky tweak.. because am I a low revenue spending client if i spend 18.000 USD yearly.. but i dont reach 54 segments.? Not really right? . so now i would have to spend 25k almost... this does not make sense..the difference is waaay to significant,

They are not just trying to get to "me" as a low revenue client, they are trying to make it significantly harder to be a premier member and make you spend much more money with this "gloryfied point system that is VERY confusing and hard to understand as you cannot translate it or compare it to other systems unless you run simulations like i did in their booking system. " . Naughty United !

And is this good for United ? it does not make sense for me to stay in the program and I will buy my tickets elsewhere? I bet you they will loose a lot of valued loyal customers and will not stay at nr1 frequent flyer program...

Exactly that. All you need to do is buy 2 $12,000 tickets and you have 1k.
