LH needs to do that. Tricky, but it can be done.

Same they have always been. You might need to re-enable expert mode ... that seems to be turning off randomly these days

But agree witht the earlier poster, this is a LH issue, no role for UA.

Expert mode seems to get turned off after purchasing new tickets because the "save updates to my profile" option (on by default) causes UA to turn :mad:ff expert mode selection. There is a thread for expert mode discussion.

How long should I wait before asking:
In all the SNAFU in the NE last week, I applied +P for a co-worker on two occasions.
The first was 3 legs (BDL-IAD-SFO-RNO) and the first and last legs cleared. Unfortunately there was a ticketing problem, he abandoned the inbound trip earlier in the week so UA apparently cancelled the rez but I was able to put the points against it. They didnt get it all worked out, he didnt make the BDL-IAD leg and missed the whole trip. One could say this was due to the mix-up over ticketing.
The next day, he was supposed to go out BDL-ORD-RNO and ORD-RNO cleared, but BDL-ORD was WX CXL.
So in both cases, it was later legs on the itinerary that cleared but he didnt make either of them. The PNR finally closed when he made it home Sunday, so I dont really expect right away, but nothing has been credited back as of yet. I would expect the WX CXL would get returned. I dont really know who was at fault for the ticketing fiasco.
I can wait a couple more days before checking, but dont really want it to get so old that the details are lost...

I just checked today and everything was returned. Rather than delete my post, I figured I would leave it up for confirmation that even something as messed up as that rez will ultimately get worked out.

For PlusPoints to PE do they only clear T-96ish or do they clear into RN when open? Wondering if I'll have any luck applying these on LAX-TYO RT later this year for three people while still getting seats together IF they clear.

They will clear into RN at any point if it opens -- there's no time restriction.

Upgrade request for both premium and polaris using PP?
 
I've seen that some folks get waitlisted for both Premium Plus and Polaris. Is that automatic, or do you have to do something specific when requesting an upgrade from economy using plus points?

I've just made an upgrade request and it shows I'm waitlisted for Polaris only. Can't find an option to request premier too.

When you put in the request it asks if you want to waitlist for Premium Plus, Polaris OR Premium Plus + Polaris. You would have selected this during the online process. If you had an agent put in the request for you then they may have only listed you for Polaris. You will have to cancel the request and then re-apply it online.

I'm trying to upgrade a booking for a friend and the website is just telling me "No upgrade available". Support have told me that there are no seats available (flight status shows available seats and there are buy-up options at checkin), and then that Pluspoint upgrade requests can't be waitlisted within 24 hours (which I believe only applies to partner airlines). There's no indication in the fare rules that it's a basic economy booking (fare basis is SKW46NCT). Does anyone know what the problem here might be?

Nope, one adult. Also confirmed that this was booked directly with United, but over the phone rather than online. FWIW, saw the same behaviour more than 24 hours out, so that's definitely a red herring.

Not sure what's wrong, but it's almost surely a system error. If not too late for that flight, a phone agent should be able do it.

Phone agent just repeated that upgrades were not available on the flight and had no idea why.
