Will UA cover cost of rental car?
Years ago, we were flying LAX-ORD-RIC, and ORD-RIC flight was canceled after delays. I asked for reroute to ROD-IAD and then rent a car to drive to RIC. UA CSR at ORD refused to agree to cover rental car cost. But, we did get travel vouchers which worked out better for us.

Best to discuss with UA at the airport or premier phone agent. Save receipts. Reimbursement most of the time afterwards with ETCs

Interesting (minor) delay reason for mainline 738 aircraft SFO-DEN 24 July UA2368
We want you to know your flight is departing late because we have to adjust weight on the plane to meet balance and safety standards. Your safety is our priority and we're sorry for the inconvenience. (Estimated Departure 10 Minutes Late)

ORF-DEN and LAX-MRY

ORf-DEN was delayed for more than one hour, due to weight restriction. Gate agent took very long time to find volunteers (more than 10). When I asked, the offer was 25K miles. I do not know the final offer. I would be able to volunteer if ORF-IAH flight was not delayed for 2 hours.

Once I got to LAX, MRY flight is delayed for more than one hour, due to prior delayed. I have more time to enjoy *A lounge at TBIT.

This is the life of summer travel.

If that was the cause , but generally not a issue for sea level departure and it is a cool day for arrival in DEN (high 74)

ORF-DEN morning departure needed more than 15 passengers to volunteer (26 empty seats on seat map) on B738 today. I noted signs on the row before the last row (“do not occupy”), but not other rows.

Par for the course for UA optimizing its scheduling. Planes sitting around = no good for UA.
Absolutely, but with a 777 flying either internationally or between EWR/SFO/LAX, a constant 2 hour turnaround is almost always going to pile up delays in 2022. I feel much more comfortable with a route that seems to consistently go back and forth.

I say this as an individual who just switched UA501 to UA40 even though I much prefer the sleep of 510. But 40 simply goes back and forth from FCO the bulk of the time while 510 is Europe-EWR-SFO-EWR-LAX-EWR most of the time before heading back TATL. I think it's been on time twice in the past 15 days, most of those with fairly clean weather at all stops.

Well, for today (07/25/22), UA 2335 is currently delayed an estimated 37 minutes and arrival into EWR 59 minutes late. Feeder flight (UA 2434 EWR-LAX) was delayed 30 minutes out of EWR and 40 minutes into LAX.

Since I like making uninformed/minimally-informed guesses —

26 July 2022: 1 hour 25 minutes delayed
27 July 2022: 59 minutes delayed.

I am booked on this flight in a bit over a week!

Had quite the day in ORD, trying to get to SBA on 7/24. Originally ORD-LAX-SBA.

UA 2095 3:50p ORD-LAX delayed, would have misconnected to SBA.
Change to 8:10p UA 742 ORD-SBA. After an hour or so of wondering why I didn't book the direct flight originally, realized I'd get there after the car rental closed.
Change to 5:50p UA 2279 ORD-DEN connecting to LAX, delayed, would have misconnected to LAX.
Change to 9:35p UA 1963 ORD-LAX, board on time. Have to deplane after finding MX issue. Change planes, 3 hour delay.

Finally got into SBA at 5:30am after driving from LAX.

What an interesting estimated delay:
I take no credit.

Mayhaps you should ask UA to be their prognosticator...

David

p.s. Currently in flight - latest estimate is 1 hr 47 mins late into EWR with an up and over the storm cells sitting atop the Piedmont today
