My Mar 16 HNL-SFO 777-200 has already been swapped to a 787-8 (and of interest probably just to me, gets to SFO 2 minutes faster)
My Mar 22 SFO-HNL 777-200 has been swapped to a polarized version
Both flights booked yesterday with the old 777-200 Hawaii seat maps

I doubt it. Probably more of a rigorous inspection schedule implemented to check the fan blades required.

Possible they need the 772s for cargo to HNL and they know the PW HD 772s are more likely to be swapped on the OGG route to a 737 or 757?

That's a good point. But I'd hope they swap in another widebody on OGG. They're going to piss off a whole lot of passengers otherwise. The ones who are buying F from SFO for a family of four and spending $1000+ per night for room(s) in Wailea. That's not a forgiving crowd.

Probably. I am hearing United is planning for the entire PW 777 fleet to be out of service for all of March, and potentially longer, depending on what the inspections reveal. HNL is always a key cargo market and is also seeing stronger pax demand than the rest of the system. For that reason I would expect to continue to see widebodies on DEN-HNL, and by virtue of the grounding of the domestic 777s, all will be in the international configuration.

Some strange things appearing on the OGG-DEN schedule that lead me to believe the "musical planes" exercise to cover for the grounded HD 777s isn't finished yet.
For example, March 14 is currently showing and selling both a 772 in Polaris config *and* a 752 flight an hour later.
Perhaps the back end systems were tripped up by the beginning of Daylight Savings Time? Unless there's an orphaned aircraft that needs to get back to DEN, the current demand certainly doesn't require that many seats.

Same thing for LAX-IAD in the other direction. I saw that 17 seats were taken up front on the seat map before the swap. I suspect there will be some very surprised individuals at check-in time. Thankfully my F seat was preserved.
