At this point this is just cheap on UA's part. Gotta open another club and relieve some pressure. F gates club is pretty sizable, C gates, whatever it needs be. I agree if many of the gs gods made some noise it would hopefully go decently far up.

A better option for a GS member is to make a formal complaint - those complaints I believe will get some attention.
Complaining about an included benefit in Kirby's world will probably fall on deaf ears - the more likely reaction: "you're getting it for free, just be thankful for that and stop whining"

A different CEO and leadership team might yield a different result, although I suspect far more clubs would be open by now anyway given that scenario.

I mean it's offensive for any UC member to be turned away IMO, but am I being unreasonable to think they could at least soften the blow for everyone/1K/GS/INTL J by pivoting that to a "Sorry, we're at capacity, here's a $20 (or $10 or $50... IDK what number would be 'right') to use for food and beverage anywhere else in the airport [not that there are great options, but I digress...]

Oh I agree. Can't say how much it stings going through SNA regularly and walking past an open-for-a-long-time-already AA club only to see UA boarded up still not even operating clubs in their own full hubs in the name of "health and safety" when some of these clubs are more packed than the terminal itself

I vaguely recall UA doing this a few years ago when they were first opening the Polaris lounges, or had the UA club under construction, or something like that. Of course now they have come to realize they can get away with pretty much no service so I guess they're ging with that. Sad.

the assumption is that they care… if they did they’d have more than one ORD club open to begin with.

For a while these signs were up in the Austin airport. After the AA club had been open for a while, AA removed its sign. The UA sign is still there, quite some time later. The UA flights are packed yet the club is still not open. That sends a pretty convincing messge.

Kirby's #1 goal is to reduce Carbon emissions. The easist, fastest way to do that is to lose customers.

Those customers will fly with other airlines, those airlines' Carbon emissions will go up, and Kirby will win.

Carbon emissions in most UC are down to 0. Mission accomplished!

I’m both a GS and a paying UC member (for when I travel with non-GS colleagues, which is almost always). I’ve sent my photo and a short note to GS. I’ll see if they say anything other than “Covid, sorry”.

Are we sure this sign is only for the club and not the airline as a whole?

I have, but the club in my home airport is open and most of my flying is to/thru other hubs. I've found the snacks to be more plentiful and to have more variety than there were in the past. Also, the new packaged snacks have allergen information on the labels unlike any of the previous food, none of which I could eat without knowing that info. As I'm a coffee addict, that benefit is valuable to me. I also like the clean restrooms.
