Just booked 1A FRA SFO in March on the 777-300. I'm thrilled!

As WineCountryUA points out, it's not just about 1 route. Presumably the turn times and schedule, plus overall loads, make the SFO-AKL route the best option for the extra aircraft as compared with staying with the 789s and deploying the 77Ws on a different route. For example, EWR-HKG requires an overnight stay in HKG (current flight arrives around 8p and departs 11a) whereas the SFO-AKL looks like it will make a turn in about 6 hours:

San Francisco (SFO) to Auckland (AKL)
United 917 Dep: 10:45 pm Arr: 8:55 am +2 13h 10m

Auckland (AKL) to San Francisco (SFO)
United 916 Dep: 3:30 pm Arr: 6:50 am 12h 20m

Yes, but it's quite clear UA is not factoring that into routings for the 77W, or, if it is, is figuring the longer the better.

Like it or not, 10X in coach is becoming the norm in this industry @:-) For the record, I don't like the seating, but understand why it's being done ($$$).

AA, AC are taking deliveries of new 777s with 10X and converting existing planes. DL AFAIK is not converting (yet) and has not ordered new 777s.

I think it should also be pointed out that 10x seating is done for $$$$ but not just for the airlines, most passengers make the decision of airline solely on price (example, anyone that flies Spirit), in order for the airlines to compete with LCCs on international flights and keep shareholders happy they need to put more people on a plane.

my dec flight originally was booked on the IPTE 772, then changed to a 789, and now swapped to 773

i am in E+

i went from best (by far) to worst aircraft

it may may not be a high margin route but every Y over winter break is not cheap!

Flew TLV-EWR and then EWR-SFO both on the 777-300W yesterday, but was surprised that it was a different aircraft for each leg (normally the TLV flight seems to continue on to SFO).

Looks like the aircraft from TLV ended up doing EWR-GRU last night. Which I'm guessing was just a substitution rather than a regular thing as it seems to be back to a 3-class 777-200 from tonight.

Hope you have a GPU to throw at it. I opted to swap routes a few days prior to my 773 flight when it was clear J was already full and there were a few in front of me on the upgrade priority. Based on prior reports, I will not sit in Y on that aircraft for any long haul flight... period.

Is it confirmed that the 77W will move off EWR-SFO once the EWR-NRT route launches?

I think what he meant was when EWR-NRT switches over to the 77W on 10/28

There are still four more 77Ws to be delivered. EWR-BOM is probably on the shortlist on where these four will go. And it's still rumoured UA will add four more to the order, finishing the 77W fleet at 22, just one shy of the 747 fleet size before the drawdown began.

I would hope so! (Fingers crossed)

However, the old PMCO planes are fine with me - as long as the lavs and IFE/seats work...

I thought that 77w range was not viable for EWR-BOM? (At least that is what AI and 9w were saying)

However, PMCO pax density is less on the 772 they are using - not sure about the new UA 77w with the 10 abreast (increasing pax load/weight) and any range improvements...

That's what they should actually do - and probably more if possible...

The 77W can do it, especially since UA's 77Ws have the latest Performance Improvement Package.
