A bit of old news for FT , but here is the formal announcement for SFO<>PEK/FRA and EWR-NRT

United Airlines Introduces Boeing 777-300ER To Additional Routes

Airline will now offer its newest aircraft, featuring the United Polaris business class seat, on six intercontinental routes

CHICAGO, July 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines announced today additional Boeing 777-300ER service, the airline's newest aircraft type featuring the all-new United Polaris business class seats, to its flight schedules. With the schedule update over the weekend, the airline expects to begin 777-300ER service on the following routes*:
• San Francisco (SFO) – Beijing (PEK) beginning September 6, 2017 westbound (September 8, 2017 eastbound)
• San Francisco (SFO) – Frankfurt (FRA)** beginning October 5, 2017 eastbound (October 6, 2017 westbound)
• New York/Newark (EWR) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) beginning October 28, 2017 westbound (October 29, 2017 eastbound)

*Flight and aircraft schedules are subject to change.
** United offers two daily flights between SFO-FRA through October 27, 2017. The 777-300ER will serve flights UA 58/59.

Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are already in service on United's San Francisco – Hong Kong (HKG) and New York/Newark – Tel Aviv (TLV) routes and will begin service from San Francisco to Taipei (TPE) on August 1. United expects to place into service all 14 aircraft in its first 777-300ER order in 2017. The airline recently announced an order for four additional 777-300ER aircraft.

I think they'll keep it though, possibly as a positioning route I would think. EWR-NRT and EWR-TLV are 77W out of EWR.

I think UA can eliminate the EWR-SFO positioning flights with the introduction of EWR-NRT operated by the 77W but that would mean ~6 hours on the ground in a TLV-EWR-NRT routing.

The 77W will route EWR-TLV-EWR-NRT-SFO-NRT-EWR-TLV-EWR-NRT-SFO etc. Also don't forget the 772s flying EWR-Asia sit on the ground in EWR several hours already.

Looking to do FRA - SFO June 2018 in I class. With just a single flight a day, am I dreaming that I could get a Business Saver Award on the flight?

Do you have your heart set on UA metal? LH releases significantly more TATL Saver J awards than UA does, though the West Coast is the toughest to snag. But with this much time to plan, you should be able to find something fairly easily on LH.

thanks for the reply, RB.
I am willing to fly LH...
I am not too familiar with star alliance saver awards tickets. I tried looking on LH but since I only have 500 miles with them, I can see flight/award availability. I must be doing something wrong. I do see some segments on LH through UA.

Can you look at my post here: #182 :

Thanks~

Yes, it's probably an impossible dream.

As RandomBaritone notes, you're much more likely to find space to SFO on LH (or LX). These options will display when you search for awards on united.com.

How does UA not sending the 77W thru LAX translates to UA hates LAX?

In all fairness, UA hates everyone about the same.
