Do you mean the complimentary gift is a gift "bag" with all the goodies mentioned above in it? If not, just one bag one item, I still like!

I can only speak for what it was at the events last summer, but yes it was a gift bag full of all of those things. The paper bag was nice and Polaris-branded too.

Not sure; but I agree, I would expect SFO-PEK or the 1p SFO-PVG to be the first 773 to mainland. I doubt the 789 would be substituted by 773 any time soon.

I have just received a personal invitation from United Taipei office to a Polaris Business Class reception after receiving the notification for a preview sent three days ago. It's confirmed on the invitation that the drawing is for a round-trip TPE-SFO Polaris business class ticket. Still curious as to what the gifts would be.

The earlier IAH-LHR-IAH (UA879/880) is using it right now.

Another reason can be BR competition. BR is actually starting a morning flight (3x/week?) in the fall with nearly identical schedule as UA (within 5 minutes on TPE-SFO and about 2 hours earlier than UA SFO-TPE). So, the least UA can do is hardware.
The extra Y seats also help carry the student/tourist load. The new BR and CI 77Ws are also 10 across in Y.

Edit: Ah, looks like the times for BR007 change in November. Thanks.

According to the wiki, SFO-TPE will revert to a 3-class 772 on March 24, 2018.
Has UA ever flown a 3-class 772 on this route?

I spoke with the 1K desk few days ago regarding to the SFO-PEK route. Rep checked with her supervisor and said there's a "good possibility" that the new 777-300s will replace the existing 747 Jumbo Jet on this route. The timeline she gave me was Fall 2017.

I'd take that with a grain of salt - given the source .......

I would say all current 744 routes have a good possibility of a 77W due to similar capacities
