I actually take it as a good news if you have a seat on the upper deck. I take it you have not tried the new seat and eager for the experience. You will get that experience for the next 10 years, but upper deck, IMHO, is offering an overall better experience (others feel free to disagree), and that experience will be gone in a few months.
Don't be disappointed for this particular flight.

But since the announcement that the 744s are being retired, I feel the aircraft are in a pretty sad state of disrepair and everything feels very dingy.
Even the flight attendants have made comments apologizing for the sad state of affairs and attributed it the planes being retired in the near future.

I spoke to a FA today, who was part of the Pan-Am merger and been on 747's ever since. She said the airlines are simply trying to limp them to the finish line as far as passenger experience goes. She's been cross trained on the 777-300 but will ride it out on the 744 as long as she can. "The pilots who have had to shuttle them to the dessert for death have been in tears."
One year from now we are all going to be longing for the "good ole' days" of flying in the huge United Polaris First suites in the nose of a 744, or the upper deck. If you haven't flown in either of the above, I implore you to do so right now. The experience isn't coming back.
Got to talk to the crew and pilots on the 744 FRA-SFO after being in F last week and it was emotional all around, including myself. Quite possibly my best UAL flight ever.

I hope at least a 77W to show up, once the 744s are gone.

Just checked the debut 773 for EWR-TLV route next Friday. Looks like they're planning on using N2331U after its pulled over from SFO. I'm curious if they'll leave it there or continue to circulate them all back and forth.
Saturday's hasn't been assigned yet (at least according to the United app, which I trick into showing future flight status by changing the date on my phone).

Have you tried instead the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...tus-tool.html??
Also once you've done the search with your date changed, when you put it back, it still shows in the recent searches. And if you subscribe to push notifications it will stay in the flight status section.
So the app/date trick can be very useful for watching flights many days out.

The 777-300 will never replace the 747-400. Absolutely fantastic aircraft.
