Due to RWY-TAXI / CONSTRUCTION, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving John F Kennedy International Airport, New York, NY (JFK). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 4 hours and 8 minutes. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".

TLDR = On Monday my pmUA B777 doing IAH-IAD delayed many hours for maintenance, compensation offered $100 or 5k miles... random pax gets detained by police...
Shortly upon walking up to the gate area to begin boarding around 11:10a , the gate agent announced a 45-minute mechanical delay which immediately pushed via our United apps. The inbound aircraft had arrived that morning from GRU at 4:58a, slightly ahead of schedule. Given the ~6 hour layover for the aircraft and the fact the aircraft wasn't parked at the gate, I suspected this maintenance issue might have festered overnight. Anyways, I returned to the glamorous United Club to wait it out. UA ended up creeping the delay back three more times; it was 3PM by the time we boarded, ETD now 3+ hours behind schedule. This turned out to be ok news as I was initially #6 on the UG list, booked 38/40 vs. #5, booked 31/40 when I finally cleared into J. FWIW, I'm Gold on an XN fare.
Once everyone finally boarded, the Captain piped on the PA stating the reason for MX was an issue with *both* thrust reversers. Of course the issue wasn't "fixed" as the gate agent had indicated before boarding us. MX continued to troubleshoot the issue for an hour but props to the J crew who did a good job of quickly offering PDB and refills. We finally ended up departing a cool 4 hours, 18 minutes behind schedule...
Lunch consisted of an awful turkey/cheese sandwich with some cold couscous-looking side dish. The meal was mostly inedible but the hot cookie was tasty. Most other folks in J didn't get very far thru their meal either.
Upon landing, my experience turned rather bizarre and was capped off by a three airport police officers huffing their way onto the aircraft as soon as the boarding door opened. It turns out they were looking for somebody sitting near me, a random I had zero verbal interaction throughout the flight but a seemingly well-behaved individual. The exchange went something like:
"Are you [first name, last name]?"
"Uh, yes"
"You need to come with us"
The police proceeded to grab this person's arm and swiftly escort off the aircraft. There was no further explanation from the police or insight from the flight crew but a few laughs were had by other passengers. Even the FAs seemed to be astounded by the short episode. When I reached podium, the suspect was seated nearby (no cuffs) answering questions from the police. I went right to the hotel shuttle as I had enough fun for the day.
Compensation for the MX delay was emailed early the following morning - 5,000 miles or a $100 e-cert. I took the e-cert.
All in all, one of my more interesting flights in recent months.

Anyway, it sure looks like UA dropped the ball on this one... the plane was on the ground for more than 10 hours since the previous flight... 6 of which there were no crews inspecting or working on the plane. Hopefully you didn't have a connection to make.

It's tough to definitively say that. The MX issue could have been realized on the GRU-IAH leg.

United 72 Hnl-sfo delay?
I'm scheduled to take this flight tomorrow morning desparting at 6.25. Well the 764 for this flight left hnl 8 hours late today. Am I to believe the schedule that says once this flight arrives later in sfo they are going to turn this flight right back to HNL arrive 1.25 this morning then fly back to sfo at the scheduled 6.25 time? Won't the crew be out of hours?

Should be a different crew. You should be fine. The plane overnights in HNL before your flight, so there's more than enough time to get you out on time.

Thanks for the info. That bird will only have about 4-5 hours down before it gets turned around. I would not like to be a passenger arriving that late due to a maintenance delay.

4-5 hours is a huge amount of time to turn a plane. They can often do it in 45 minutes.

Flight this morning ORD-ICT was canceled due to weather. The unusual bit is that I was not protected on another flight, the outbound segment has disappeared from my itinerary, and the phone agent is saying there is nothing she can do, as there is no availability on any UA, DL, AA flights today.
Normally, the canceled segment still shows in my reservation to make changes, even after checking in, no? Is standby roulette going to be my only option for today?
ALSO, any chance that buying a "one time" pass to the T2 United Club will garner me some leniency with UC staff if I'm around the airport all day taking my standby chances?

IAH-PIT
3804 MX - we were boarding and got told as walked down jetway to turn around.
So we will have an aircraft swap, extra plane sitting in a hangar here @ IAH.
The MX plane has been sitting here all night......10 or so hours. Isn't a check done upon landing and/or prior to boarding time?

UA3781 PIT-IAD delayed about an hour and a quarter this morning due to a power problem on the aircraft. Could've used a bit more proactive communication and was disappointed to just miss a connection that has proved very inconvenient, but not the end of the world.

IAH-SEA
IAH-SEA UA1478, we boarded the plane as normal, everyone was in and the door was about to closed. FA was about to hand first their pre-departure drinks when they came on stating that we would need to deplane and wait at the gate as there was some MX work that needed to be done on some "flight instruments on the wing".
We deplane and sit at the gate for like 30 minutes, then they announced a gate change and a plane swap. C36 to E9 (nice little walk)....
Of course the plane they swapped to was still en-route from Grand Cayman.
Frustrating for me as I only switched to this route a few days before so I could get home early.....total fail.
UA1478 IAH-SEA scheduled for 6:50 dept, actually left at 8:36. Got into SEA at 11:01pm instead of 9 something.
And to top it off none of the IFEs (directtv) worked on the left side of the plane.
