If the DidItClear website is going to be effective, it needs more members and trip upgrade data!
Please visit https://www.diditclear.com/ and include your trip experience with CPU's, RPU's, GPU's and any other means of upgrading available on United.
The better the data, the better the search results and experiential history.

GPU/RPU Z or P to ON on 3 class IAH-HNL flight
Sorry if this is asked up thread, I didn't see it when I initially scanned after finding this thread.
I know that you can not buy a Z or P fare and upgrade using GPU from J to F internationally on UA. But reading here I don't see the fare requirements preventing the Z or P upgrading using the RPU/GPU. Am I missing something or assuming there is ON open, will I be able to upgrade to F on the Ghetto 3 class 777 that is still flying that route. I'm feeling nostalgic
and would rather experience the old F vs the 2 cabin F (even on the new HI bird) if I'm able and about to buy the tickets and confirm my flight for next week.
Thanks.

I'm looking at booking UA1636 on 01/18, which is a direct LAX-DEN-BOS flight. The flight is a surprising one for United -- it's a direct flight *and* it's the same aircraft all the way through to Boston!
How does RPU logic apply here? If an upgrade clears for LAX-DEN, do I burn my RPU? Or will it only clear if R space exists LAX-DEN-BOS?
Splitting the reservation into two segments doesn't make sense here since it isn't an international long-haul, right?
Should I return my RPU if it doesn't clear, so as not to risk fouling up the process (e.g. never getting my RPU redeposited)?

Internationally, the problem with the same flight number on two flights... it clears in both or not at all. So if the rule is the same domestically, LAX-DEN must be available AND DEN-BOS must be available. (I am not sure if this rule applies domestically.)

Just an update to my previous post:
Wrote in to UA and they confirmed that indeed, p.s. flights are BF and that a customer whose BF leg isn't upgraded will get their GPU/RPU redeposited.
Here's the text of the email in its entirety (names redacted, natch).
"Dear Mr. Matkus:
Thank you for contacting United Airlines.
Premium service flights offer BusinessFirst. The GPU will be
re-deposited if the United BusinessFirst or United GlobalFirst segment
could not be upgraded.
We appreciate your business and look forward to welcoming you on board a
future United Airlines flight.
Regards,
United Airlines"

If you clear any segment, you use your RPU.

The seat selector is a mess, with two sets of the two segments. I can only select a seat for LAX-DEN. I confirmed with a customer service rep this morning that I'm in the same seat for the DEN-BOS as well, but it doesn't show up on United. It allows me to pick an F seat for DEN-BOS, then doesn't save it.
Whatever, I'll wait it out, and hopefully they both clear. If the seats go to battlefield, does the RPU do anything? Or is it "automatically" (e.g. a few phone calls) returned to me?
Update -- On the app, I show "Upgrade Confirmed" on LAX-DEN, but DEN-BOS still shows "Upgrade Waitlisted." Yet I can't select a F seat for LAX-DEN. And frankly, I don't want to, unless I'm upgraded for the entire route. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do from here?

Expiring Regional Upgrades
I have three regional upgrades that expire this month. Anyone know of a way to trade these in for miles? I called United and they said there is nothing they can do. I could use the extra miles for an award ticket for my sister-in-law and kids.
thanks,
Mike

There is a coupon connection forum on FT, but you need a certain number of posts (180) to be able to enter it...

You wrote ... so I assume you mean ... that they are the regional certs, not the global. Right?
2 GPUs can be extended until the end of April IF you requalified for 1K. But RPUs are "use them or lose them."

I have a trip coming up in early March to BKK.
IAH-LAX-NRT-BKK Then BKK-NRT-SFO-IAH. Segments in bold are not able to apply my GPU's to due to fare class(K).
(1)Will this change as the flight gets closer?
(2)Can I purchase an upgrade to a higher class keeping the same itinerary that would allow me to apply the GPU's?
(3)If I can would it even be worth it on these legs in the hopes of getting the upgrade?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2. No, you cannot buy-up to a higher class. (Obviously you can always rebook and pay the change fee.)
3. For confirmed upgrades, if they are not available at the time of booking, it is anyone's guess.

Checked-In at T-24 from Origin, Not On Upgrade List from Gateway
Flying into LAX for an international connection tomorrow and have GPU applied. Just checked in from my city at T-24. Upgrade list out of LAX is empty - my name was not added.
Is it because it is not T-24 yet at LAX yet?
If yes, when T-24 comes at LAX, is it going to sort (within the status and fare class) based on the original check-in time?
If no, did something go wrong?
Thanks.
