Booked November 1: SFO-DEN-PHX-DEN-SFO mileage run for $267 in Y.

Instant upgrade pricing to F was $129 per leg or $516 total.
Buying F from the get go was $506 total. So $277 more to upgrade vs. buying F outright.

There's a whole science on consumer buying behavior with competing schools of thought. Here's my take: The up-sale at initial purchase is to keep you spending while you're in a spending mood. Whereas just before a flight departs, UA will offer TODs to fill seats for cash rather than letting them go via CPU to pesky elites. The high price in-between is for suckers.

sfo-iah-fll $335

I was waitlisted with an RPU but it was not looking good, and the sfo-iah was on a 787 (which I hadn't flown), so I bit.

Still haven't gotten my rpu back, guess I have to call.

Flew YYC to IAH today (UA 1599) and was offered a buy up to Biz for $179. I declined as all I was going to do was sleep.

I was somewhat surprised to see this offer on an award ticket.

My wife is on UA 1469 today DEN/ORD L fare, no status. She took the $129 TOD offer at check in around 20-22 hours pre flight. She said UA would also refund the $47 she paid for a E+ bulkhead.

1292 IAH-ORD 10/16
1k, H fare
$119
14/20 booked @ OLCI, no one on the cleared list. Currently (T-3) 18/20 booked, no one on the cleared list. I'm currently #3 on the UG list. Something tells me UA didn't sell 4 F tickets in the last 21 hours.

Mythinks Boo_Radley is referring to selling F outright, not buyup

Co-worker bragging that she took my upgrade tomorrow from ATL - ORD.

I'm #1 on list and all F is now full.

She had S fare, offered $49, no status. Have to love TOD

Wow, I'd start stealing her lunches out of the fridge.
