Update January 2020:
According to statusmatcher.com TK will only issue the the status match challenge to those holders of the following status:
Oneworld Emerald
Finnair Plus Gold (Oneworld Sapphire)
Skyteam Elite Plus
Emirates Gold/Platinum
Etihad Gold
Oman Air Gold
Other Gold Card holders including *G are out of luck.
Please report your experience in this thread and note the useful information in the Wiki below.
It appears that status matches are only granted once per lifetime, so think carefully before requesting if you might not re-qualify.

TK asks for Elite card scan AND Account activity within last 2 months, so it's best if you have some activities!!
Timeline can range from few hours to few days, be patient!

It looks like TK might also ask you for a scan of your Passport now. So if you are in a hurry better submit it right away in the first place with all the other documents.

Multiple reports from December 16th 2015 onwards state that TK now only grants a match to 4 months "elite trial", requiring 1 international TK flight during the 4 months following the match to extend it to one year and 15000 k TK status miles during that year to extend elite status to 2 years:
04/11/2017 - CoweyB. TK has clarified that once a status match is given any miles collected during the first year of the match do not count for renewal - despite the email suggesting that 25,000 miles collected in the first year will secure renewal. TK has said that it is necessary to collect 37,500 in the second year to maintain Elite status for a further two years once the period of the status match ends.

Welcome Miles&Smiles Turkish Airlines' advantageous Frequent Flyer Programme. Elite card trial period will be valid for 4 months. As of start date of elite membership within 4 months trial period one international Turkish Airlines flight should be realised for extending your card validity date to 1 year, if 15.000 status miles accumulate at the end of the first year elite membership will extend 1 year more and the total validity date will be 2 years.

After from sage advice as to which *A FFS to join from this site, I went for TK and applied for a status match. It was relatively straight forward - apart from the fact that they wouldn't accept my FB Platinum card and insisted on seeing FB Gold (which thankfully I still had). All in all it took about 10 days and I picked up a couple of cards at the desk is IST last week.
Still giving the challenge of 1 international TK flight within 4 months and 15000 TK miles in the year to maintain.

It's their error, each flight did earn miles, I am at about 10K now. Is it worth posting all the next TAP operted flights on TK as well, in hope that when I will reach 15K they will let me keep the status, or is it wiser to just give up on that, join Tap Victoria and credit the flights there?

Alternatively, I might be interested in joining Tap Victoria, because I mainly fly on them and also because they can also count your segments to qualify you to Ellite status, and not just miles. During the transition period, can I book flights with the Tap Victoria frequent flyer number and show them the Turkish airlines Star Allliance Gold card when I want to use the lounge or have the extra piece of luggage?

Happy New Year FT Friends. I have made a Status Match Request and sent all of the required information. In return they have requested a card that shows more that 2 months validity. As new credentials have not posted for the new year, I have sent a copy of my app card that shows I have Delta Platinum E+ status until Jan 2019. Is there anything else I can do that would be of assistance? Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a TK Status Match Thread for 2018? Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

How long does status match take? It's Tuesday and I'm about to buy a flight for this upcoming Thursday (business and international), is it going to be impossible to credit this to my status match (for the first four months requirement)?

For me it took three working days from filling up the request and receiving email confirmation of the match challenge.

It's very likely you have to wait until you received the new physical card package...TK CS was famous of not acknowledging Electronic card and reluctant to login manually to verify your validity even if you proactively provide your account login info and "authorize" them to do so
Thanks LuoboTiX, they did finally grant me status after I noted that the new card hadn’t arrived and stated that the picture clearly showed the dates. Pleased to have already booked enough flights to meet the status match challenge. Excited to experience this renowned lounge in Istanbul.

Yup, and that's exactly what happened. They matched me on January 12th and my flight was on January 11th. What a disaster - I guess I won't be status matching because I won't have another flight within 4 months; that was fun TK.

It's fast enough of TK regarding your match. Some others have even been waiting up to 4 weeks for a simple successful match. It's your own responsibility to schedule your flight wisely and create enough space.
