Update January 2020:

According to statusmatcher.com TK will only issue the the status match challenge to those holders of the following status:

Oneworld Emerald
Finnair Plus Gold (Oneworld Sapphire)
Skyteam Elite Plus
Emirates Gold/Platinum
Etihad Gold
Oman Air Gold

Other Gold Card holders including *G are out of luck.

Please report your experience in this thread and note the useful information in the Wiki below.

It appears that status matches are only granted once per lifetime, so think carefully before requesting if you might not re-qualify.

TK asks for Elite card scan AND Account activity within last 2 months, so it's best if you have some activities!!
Timeline can range from few hours to few days, be patient!

It looks like TK might also ask you for a scan of your Passport now. So if you are in a hurry better submit it right away in the first place with all the other documents.

Date Requested
Current Airline and Status (note list of matchable status above)
Information submitted (i.e. physical card scan, activity statement, etc)
Any replies received other than confirmation

Multiple reports from December 16th 2015 onwards state that TK now only grants a match to 4 months "elite trial", requiring 1 international TK flight during the 4 months following the match to extend it to one year and 15000 k TK status miles during that year to extend elite status to 2 years:
Welcome Miles&Smiles Turkish Airlines' advantageous Frequent Flyer Programme. Elite card trial period will be valid for 4 months. As of start date of elite membership within 4 months trial period one international Turkish Airlines flight should be realised for extending your card validity date to 1 year, if 15.000 status miles accumulate at the end of the first year elite membership will extend 1 year more and the total validity date will be 2 years.
04/11/2017 - CoweyB. TK has clarified that once a status match is given any miles collected during the first year of the match do not count for renewal - despite the email suggesting that 25,000 miles collected in the first year will secure renewal. TK has said that it is necessary to collect 37,500 in the second year to maintain Elite status for a further two years once the period of the status match ends.

Not UA Gold, but maybe if you match UA *G to something else and take a couple of flights?

FWIW still waiting on my request from June 2nd. They say reply in 7 days, so still some buffer left.

Not for me but for my father:
Made the request for a status match to Etihad Guest Gold on May 26th submitting copy of physical gold card and a 12 month statement. Got a reply on May 29th asking for a copy of passport, submitted on May 30th and got standard 7 day wait email on May 31st. On June 6th (yesterday) got an email confirming match to Miles and Smiles elite with the condition that one international flight within 4 months will extend the membership by a year and if 15,000 status miles on TK are earned, it will be extended an additional year.

Submitted a request June 2nd.
June 9th got a request to send pictures of front and back of physical card.

It's June 19th now and I still haven't heard back, despite asking twice at twitter to check status after 7 days had passed :/

Edit: Matched to Elite on 20th Waiting for email with challenge details.

Just reporting back that I have now received 2 years of Elite after reaching 40k miles in the last 12 months. Bottom line is that taking the challenge does not mess with your ability of achieving Elite the old fashioned way. So if you want status while you accumulate miles on non-TK flights, the match is a safe bet!

Unfortunately TK does nor status match with QR Gold being OW Sapphire.
I flew 16k status miles in May and will fly 8 segments in September (4 in J and 4 in Y), good for an additional 28K miles, totaling 44K in 6 months.
TK would not bulge to status match me with 44K booked tickets. Thus no CIP access for me during the Y trip.
I have no further plans beyond September, very unsure my loyalty will stay with TK, Elite and *G regardless.
I'll book the best *A deal offered to me for future travels or could return flying QR J if the price is right.

For miles pertaining to earning Elite status, not redeemable miles...

Wheretocredit.com says a J fare on Turkish earns 135% on miles.

Is this 135% for redeemable miles ONLY, or also for status earning miles? Or are these one in the same as Turkish is not a revenue-based system like the crappy US carriers.

All miles earned from flying a Star Alliance carrier are status miles.

Anyone has a tip for a cheap one-way or return flight with TK to fly before mid-October?
Somewhere from Western Europe ideally

Not sure I did, but I will.
Though it looks like KSC is fairly good value, might just take my mom to see Istanbul.

Is this likely to include some long-haul sale fares in business?

DP:

15 July: Applied with the following documents: Passport, Physical AA EXP card (front & back), PDF of YTD flying on AA
17 July: Online account updated to TK Elite.
19 July: E-mail received. Language in e-mail is rather confusing.

The Elite card trial period is 4 months. Subsequent to the inclusion of an international flight you will perform with Turkish Airlines within the first 4 months following the beginning of your Elite membership in your account, your trial period will be extended for 8 months and regarded valid for one year in total. If you earn 15,000 status miles in Turkish Airlines international line flights in the first year of your Elite membership, your membership will be extended for one year, and it will be valid for two years in total. If the first flight you will perform within the trial period is Business class, you will earn 50% more status miles.
Does anybody want to help decipher that? Does that mean that my 15k miles in one year must be flown on TK metal? Also, my first flight during the trial period is on *A Y, so does that mean I forfeit the 50% more status miles? I'm curious because I have TK J flight lined up after that.

I will take a flight from KSC in the end.

R/T at 200pp to IST is reasonable and I'll take my mum out.

Anyway the physical card and tag arrived today, after about a month. I'm based in NL.
@solewalker : 15k on TK metal and international is the challenge. For other *A the regular requal rate applies. Unfortunately only on the first flight the bonus seems to apply.

Hello.

I understand this has been discussed earlier but to be completely honest I am not 100% clear on what my requirements are.

I status matched successfully from FB in December 2017. I've flown the international TK flight and got status until December 2018. I am now at 32047 miles since the start of the year (or not ... See last question). The Turkish airlines app shows I need 5453 miles to protect elite status.

Questions I would be so grateful if someone can help me figure out:
1) Since I already did 15k miles on TK metal since the start (within one year) I should have Elite until December 2019 correct ?
2) the threshold mentioned on the app (seems 37500) in my case (as a status matched on first year) does this mean that if I do 5453 miles more (I will) I'll get a further extension on my status (so December 2021)? Or not? And if not then by when do I need to do more how many miles to extend it beyond 2019?
3) let's say I swing for a E+. If I understand I would need to hit 80.000 miles by December 2018, correct ?
4) if I do hit those miles by November will I get automatically upgraded and the cycles changed ? (So E+ Until Nov 2020, *G till Nov 2022 with the soft landing)?
5) My TK app shows that I need 5453 miles to keep status (don't understand the two year cycle thing if I'm at first) - see attached - and that I have 32047 miles. But on the main page it shows I have 35340 miles. So for E+ it seems to count the 35340. For E renewal it seems to count the 32047 - any idea of the difference, why it is considering a two year cycle (by asking for 37500 to renew) and considering two different amounts? (Knowing I matched 30 Dec 2017.

Detail for Renewal

Thanks so much for help in figuring it out ! Maybe some questions are obvious but having a hard time wrapping my head around it.
