I think that the CBSA has presented things in a really confusing way. My initial reading was exactly the same as yours: here are the four points, follow them and you'll be fine. That may be the case for Canadian residents returning to Canada and using a TDC.

For other Nexus members, those who do not use a TDC when entering Canada in a Nexus lane, they are very clear that you need to be within your personal allowance. The four points indicate that third-party goods are not within your allowance, leading me to the conclusion that I, as a US resident, would not use the Nexus lane with third-party goods. It does seem like it would be OK for Canadian residents.

I do this frequently and the resulting process varies at different airports - in YYZ I was sent into secondary after collecting my bags, stood in line for quite a long time, in the end the agent was a bit annoyed I was declaring chocolates and jam. At YVR, you go from the kiosk to an agent right away (before bag collection) and they ask a couple questions, easy peasy.
I recall seeing a thread where people lost Nexus over gum, but that's weird, that's neither food (consumed) nor a product of meat, grains, dairy etc. But I am no authority on the matter!!

My experience declaring food in YYZ a couple of days ago was not as described by nomadic.relief. Just a short chat with the agent near the kiosk who stamped my kiosk receipt, then picked up my bag and exited baggage hall with no visit to secondary. This was in T1. I don't know if the setup is the same in T3.

What happened to the Seattle enrollment center? The TTP website is only showing Blaine now. Did the BFI office recently close?

Just got an email from Canadians Abroad that there will be NEXUS interviews in LA from Sept 18 to 20 (I assume at the Consulate).

Your application has to be completed by Aug 17 (Friday).

I had been putting off applying until my next (as of yet unscheduled) YVR trip but jumped on this.

Yes, closed due to budget cut.

Figure this is the best place to pose this question.

Booked a NEXUS interview for my daughter for an hour after scheduled arrival in YYZ on an Air Canada flight. Would rather not schlep back to the airport during our YYZ visit for an interview, and I think I'd rather do that than have to come earlier for our outbound flight a few days later.

Obviously, if things don't go as planned, could be late. So let's say flight gets delayed an hour. Anyone know what would happen if we miss the regular appointment time, but come in late the same day? Is there a way to contact YYZ to let them know (to be clear, I know the YYZ office has a phone number - but I've never been able to get anyone other than a machine)?

Or is it better to just book before our outbound flight. Also, a bit of a guess there, not wanting to book it super early, but don't want to find out they'll be a long wait for an officer while we need to get airside.

Thoughts?

You should be fine. If it makes you feel better, change your appointment to two hours after your scheduled arrival.

If I were you, I would not even entertain the idea of before your outbound flight. Too many things can happen. If you are delayed, do you take your scheduled flight or skip your interview.

Got conditional approval today and scheduled my appointment for Sept 18. Was pretty much 72 hours from submission to conditional approval -- I guess they really are expediting these LA interviews.

Iris sticker

I will be travelling with my daugther who has an iris sticker on her card. Nexus members are no longer require to fill out a déclaration form since you complete it at the kiosk. Since we will be using the special service Line at YUL, do I need to complete a payer declaration form or do I go directly to the special Line?

I was told over the phone by the CBSA agent at the Windsor airport that I would need to have the physical Nexus card in my possession in order to get the iris scan. I already have a Global Entry card and was certain that my Known Traveler Number was not going to change in the transition.

Of course they have interviews in LA after I go up to Montréal to renew. :D

Does a customs violation in another country (not US or Canada) affect your Nexus renewal? I am going to apply for renewal soon and got an infringement in New Zealand last month for failing to declare an item. On the spot fine of $400 NZD, paid it straight away at the airport. The customs officer told me it's treated like a speeding ticket, and once it's paid you don't have to worry about it anymore. Just wondering if anyone has a similar experience having a customs violation in a different country and still retaining/renewing their NEXUS. Thanks!

That’s why I specifically asked CBSA in Port Huron during the interview if I could get the scan done that day. It seemed too good to be true, but I went over to Sarnia and got it done. The CBSA just wanted my passport, license, and KTN to do the scan.

I think there’s room for improvement for both CBP and CBSA to have the most current and up to date information posted online in one spot so we can be sure we’re in compliance with the program rules.
