Here's a random data point...
A DUI and another charge in 2007. Guilty of DUI, another charge dropped by the prosecution.

Applied June 18 of this year, conditional approval August 13, interview August 15. US side wanted to see disposition of charges, a printout from court records website worked fine. No other questions asked. Canadian side made no mention of the criminal record but wanted to know why I want NEXUS. Told them that I want shorter wait at the border and no other reason. Approval came before I got back to my car.

She Who Must Be Obeyed (who doesn't have GE but for some reason almost always gets preCheck) submitted Her application Friday night and had conditional approval this morning. We even managed to get our interviews within an hour of each other -- saves on travel time to Downtown LA.

Got conditional approval today and scheduled my appointment for Sept 18. Was pretty much 72 hours from submission to conditional approval -- I guess they really are expediting these LA interviews.

Damn that's a crazy turnaround time. I've heard of 24 hour global entry approvals but nexus is usually six weeks or so. Seems they can expedite it if they want to do so!

Odd that Canada approved you, since a DUI is the equivalent of a felony in Canada, while it's a misdemeanor in the US. Plenty of cases of people being turned away at the border even for infractions decades ago. Conversely, the US won't approve you if you have any customs violations, even from 40 years ago. Perhaps it's because it's been more than ten years ,and so you can be considered automatically rehabilitated. Did you ever travel to Canada in the previous ten years? Did you need a visa to do so?

Well, they are only doing the interviews for three days in LA (Sep 18-20) so it wouldn't make much sense to have a normal delay. "Gee, I wonder why we don't have any interviews?" :)

It must've been 10 year thing. Funny thing is that Canadians say that it has to be 10 years from the end of the sentence, which for me is technically isn't until next year or so. They didn't care it seems.

I've never tried going into Canada up until a month ago, really had no reason to go. Last month the DUI never even came up when crossing. Reason I got NEXUS now is because I just recently moved to Buffalo and I see myself going to Canada more often now.

One caveat, I do work for the govt, same department as CBP. Theoretically this shouldn't have any bearing on the approval, but who knows...

Everyone needs something to pass through customs....you'll need a slip to hand the officer when you leave the bag area. If you don't use a kiosk - either Nexus or from the regular self-servce kiosks, you won't have anything.

We do this with our daughter as well....you'll need to fill out the form. Typically, when we all travel together, we just fill out a customs form for all of us, and just go straight to see the officer in the special services line. I find its easiest to fill out the form together, since we're all going together and once we need to go to the desk with our daughter, there's no point in doing the kiosk first and then waiting for that. We once got sent back to have the adults do the kiosks, but every other time, the officer has just processed us all together and we present Nexus cards.

Yvr Nexus office hours on 9/3

Just got my green card and need to update my Nexus. Does anyone know whether the Nexus office in yvr is open on Sept 3rd labor day?

NEXUS Enrolment Centres

Vancouver Seven days a week: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This is in contrast with some enrollment centers, i.e., Ottawa and Edmonton, which are "Closed on Canadian and US holidays."

Anyone renew with new login.gov process? For prior US drivers license change when I moved to a different state the CBP Officer at Canadian airport enrollment center told me not to worry about my license. What do I do for an outright renewal ? Thanks

(I searched the forums but couldn't really find information on this)
So my wife had a Nexus card since 2013, it was set to expire Mid-September, 2018, she applied for renewal back in June, got approved August 23rd (7 days ago) without interview but he new card has not arrived yet (likely will arrive this coming week). The question is that we'll be traveling Sep 5th so if her card doesn't arrive by them (which is likely because of Labor day), can she still use her OLD (not yet expired card) to cross the border Sep 5th ? Additionally, she also used to have global entry, would that still be active on her passport (which has not changed) ?

I am confused about the above because in Sep 2015 we had to update her nexus information and get a new card which was done on the nexus office in Detroit -- they told her she could continue to use her existing card until she received/activated the new one but when she tried to use it she had to be taken inside and it was a whole big deal because they said her card was "invalid". Since we're going cross the border by car to take a flight we can't "waste" 1 hour at the border just to explain the situation in case her card doesn't work, so if someone has had a similar experience please share (or we'll just use passports instead).

The confusion with global entry is that it seems she had to "ask" for that to be registered on her first nexus (it was NOT automatic), so knowing that she's going to get a new card I wanted to make sure global entry would carry over -- if anyone has had similar experience, please share.

Thanks!

My wife renewed online on the new process, just filled out info, waited 2-3months, got approval without interview, card should be in the mail soon. She also renewed her driver's license in the meantime and updated it directly on the site after approval notice, all very simple to do.

Her current NEXUS card is valid until Sept 2018 expiration date and can be used up to six months from 2018 expiration date since she has applied for renewal. Now renewal has been approved on 23 Aug 2018, her new NEXUS card should arrive in a week to ten days. Most likely her new NEXUS card will arrive before 5 Sept 2018. Make sure to activate her new NEXUS card as soon as it is received.

NEXUS includes Global Entry privileges. Once she activated her NEXUS card in 2013, her Global Entry card was deactivated. NEXUS and Global Entry are two completely separate programs. If you use U.S. passport to enter Canada via land crossing, you cannot use NEXUS lane.

In the future, it is best to renew NEXUS at T-364 to avoid situation like this.

Thanks for the reply and good information! She never had global entry alone -- it was always just part of her nexus but she had to ask them to "add" to her nexus account (it was not automatic) -- at least back in 2013. She is Canadian with canada passport, and yes only use nexus lanes with the nexus card in hands. I hope her card arrives before we leave on the 5th, but will try to use current one if not. Thanks again for sharing this good information!

You are welcome. Please let us know if your experience is different than I described so other FTer can benefit. Thank you.

I was trying to find my post about my girlfriend applying for the NEXUS card, but I can't recall when I posted it, though I think it probably only took her two months from when she applied until she got conditional approval and the chance to book an appointment.

We were at YYZ last Sunday and she was approved for the NEXUS. She and I were immediately able to use mine and (her new) NEXUS privileges entering US immigration at YYZ.

We plan on flying to Seattle in a couple of months and hopefully we'll be able to use the NEXUS lane on the drive up to Vancouver.
