We have that, but I've declared he also has HK citizenship and I need to show a doc to prove that as well. |

My Nexus membership renewal is approved with no interview required and a new expiration date in my account online that is five years after my next birthday. However, there is no link on the TTP dashboard to activate the new card when it arrives in the mail. Does a link only appear when the card has been produced and sent? Or is there some other link related to activation that should be used that I am just not seeing?

I'm in my 40s and hasn't work for 10 years, Canadian citizen, own my condo, car. I travel a lot, to US, abroad. No criminal record, clean as a whistle, not even a driving ticket. What are my chances of being denied? Any idea if they'll give me a difficult time during interview process? Currently, I do have a sizable (200K) cash bank account. I do not work in the USA and do not plan on doing so. I go there a lot for shopping and transit to other countries. Cuts down time is the main reason. Hope to get some answers. I'm worried if I apply and gets denied, it'll be even of a lengthier questioning each time I go over. Thanks
p.s. I do realize it says the following on the form, just unsure how much truth to it: - Lack of employment will not disqualify you from being a member, if you are otherwise admissible to the U.S. and Canada and meet all other requirements. Condo in Canada, big bank accounts in the states as well as a house in the states..will it further complicate matters if I disclose them?? |

I do have a question regarding the Nexus machines - what is their definition of "food"? Does it include hard candy or gum? If you declare it on the Nexus machine, does that automatically send you into a secondary inspection room with a delay and full search, or can you just show or declare the items to the inspector at the exit and keep going? With Global Entry, 99% of the time, they just ask at the exit and wave you on so there is no delay.

I recall seeing a thread where people lost Nexus over gum, but that's weird, that's neither food (consumed) nor a product of meat, grains, dairy etc. But I am no authority on the matter!! |
Food includes everything edible, so you must select "Yes" at the kiosk, even if it is just candy. This will send you to Agriculture, where they will ask you about the type of food you bring and they may X-ray your baggage. I have done this many times at different airports, usually on the way from Europe to Canada. Very often, if you mention that you are going straight to Canada (food only in checked baggage) and the bags are checked through, they don't care any further and let you go.
Plenty of foods are allowed nowadays, the main exceptions are fresh fruits, meat and some dairy items (hard cheese is OK). |

question
Hi
I am driving from Detroit to Toronto and have NEXUS My friend asked me to bring a basketball jersey for him from the USA (worth $65). Do I have to declare even if he paid me back and all the tags are on it? And if I do have to declare can I do it via riding in the NEXUS lanes? Thanks |

Be careful that you have read and understood the Nexus conditions. Gifts within your allowance should be ok. Bringing in something for another person, i.e., something that person had bought and is sending with you, is not.

Here is what the conditions say about third-party goods in land mode:
Note that third-party goods (transported but not owned by NEXUS members) are not part of personal exemption limits. When travelling into Canada with third party goods, members must:
You should be able to do this in a regular lane, but I would not try it in a Nexus lane. The most definitive statement of conditions seems to be on the CBSA Nexus page. Canadian residents who are Nexus members can use a TDC card to declare goods for personal use when entering Canada in a Nexus lane. Others members entering Canada can only use the Nexus lane when they are within their personal exemption. Members entering the US in a Nexus lane can only bring goods for their personal use and must be within their personal exemption. You can not use a Nexus lane with commercial goods or $10K or more in currency or other monetary instruments. I think that it's strange that they go into detail about how third-party goods are handled before making it clear that you can only use the Nexus lane with personal goods. Viewers of Border Security may recall the story about the Nexus member who nearly lost his membership for bringing third-party goods into the US in a Nexus lane. |
