I wish they could better deal with the "trusted" part of this "trusted traveler" program though.

I think they do - I've been randomly selected for Nexus secondary. 10 seconds of questions, and they never even ask me to open my bags, unlike the others in secondary.
However the Cdn folks seem to always have multiple questions when I have crossed by land even after 4 days in the US and a $800 allowance each for 5 pax. Even opened my trunk once. |

It would be the same as a US passport, basically a chip, not a biometric identifier. The biomentric identification is done by the iris scan, same as nexus. If I'm not mistaken, the new canadian passports have or will have chips in them.
Right now US citizens who are GE members can use automatic border controls in the following countries: Netherlands (requires registration and fee) Korea (requires registration and fee) Israel (no registration or fee) Australia (no registration or fee) Germany (registration, no fee) UK (possibly since UK citizens can now register for GE but I have not checked with UKBS yet) Those are ones I know of. If anyone has information on others, please post. Thanks |
FWIW I just went to Edmonton passport office to renew mine ( expires in 4 months ) . If you pay regular old fee and get passport in mail it's old style ( machine readable).
If you pay $10 extra and pick-up in 10 business days you get new chip/electronic one. (5 year) If you want 10 year with chip it's after July 1 and much higher fees for both. I asked what deal was on the roll out, she told me depends on PP office as to what is being issued. |

Did they tell you to pay $10 more for the rush and you could get the ePassport(new) and that if you just went with regular you would get the old passport? Or did you have to ask? |

FWIW my receipt says ePassport as well, but with all government services I will only know for sure June 11th when I pick it up ;)
Going to just bite the bullet and do wife's as well, we are debating trip to a country with 6 month valid passport rule and she has less than 5 months left on hers. |

Can you provide information of a link to the German one? I have global entry and would like to register for the German system.
Thanks http://www.bundespolizei.de/DE/01Bue.../abg_node.html |

If you have the global entry card, you don't need an appointment. Just go to the Bundespolizei (German Federal Police) enrolment office in Frankfurt in Terminal 1 near concourse A. open from 6:30 to 21:30 every day. If you are a US citizen with a nexus card, you will need to call them first to make an appoint ment and fax them your data so that they can verify with CBP. Here is a link:

Ottawa enrollment center now open during weekend
Somehow I receive this email even though I have gone through all the procedures:
" Our records indicate that you have scheduled an appointment to finalize or renew your NEXUS membership at the Ottawa airport Enrolment Center in the upcoming months. In order to assist with quicker processing of new and existing members, we would like to provide you with an opportunity to schedule an earlier appointment. Please note that these new appointments are currently available on the GOES Scheduler. There are a limited number of appointment slots available on a first come, first serve basis on the following dates: June 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm July 6th, 7th - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm " |
YOW NEXUS OFFICE - at least temporarily open on weekends for enrollment interviews!
My daugther was booked for her nexus interview on June 19 - okay for her (after school); not so okay for me, as it is a working day.
So, I got this email from GOES, and I took one of the Jun 16 slots for my daughter. I do not know if this weekend option for NEXUS interviews is temporary for good, temporary on a trial basis with the possibility of becoming permanent, or permanent.
