should i just go pay the 100 for GE? How long does it take to get an appt? Say at SFO (my home airport) i will have more flights beginning in JULY

Depends. You need Nexus if you fly into Canada often, GE is a US program. Did not think that GE automatically equates to Nexus though the reverse is true. I could be wrong and perhaps other posters would comment.

GE doesn't get me in n out of Canada faster?

flyquiet May 24, 2013 3:31 pm

I think arriving in Canada is NEXUS only. I say that because I hate the NEXUS machines and would use GE if I had the choice, and I have used NEXUS when I have arrived at YYZ.

So i called the GOES 800 number
French candian answered. GOES Is only good for entry to Canada. To come out if you have GOES you cant use the priority lane, need NEXUS. i only asked about flying. Didnt ask about entry by car. Also stated processing time is 8-10 wks+interview waiting. If they want people to join they gotta cut down on the overall processing time.

GOES is the Global Online Enrollment System that lets you register for programs like GE and NEXUS.

GOES is not good for entry into anything.

Global Entry gets you into the USA faster. Doesn't help you with Canada.

when i called GOES the guy said
if you have GE it will get you into canada faster by air. (you clear customs at YYZ)
if you leave canada at YYZ it wont help, u cant access the priority line, that you'd need NExus.

Is that not accurate?

Sounds like the opposite. You need nexus to enter Canada, GE to enter the US.

Normally if you have Nexus you have GE too.

That's the opposite of reality.

GE gets you into the United States. Nothing more.

NEXUS+GE gets you into Canada and the United States, and NEXUS gets you priority security screening at a lot of Canadian airports.

Anyway, if you do transborder travelling, I'd recommend the $50 NEXUS application, which also gets you GE. Just wait until you know you'll be at a Canadian airport, and book your interview for then.

kaiotes May 24, 2013 4:40 pm

well i'm alrady out 50 bucks
Waited a month and longer for first step
gona wait another what 3 months to get a convenient time.
i am not in canada every day, cant just go book any last minute appts via cancellations by others.
thus i'm thinking if paying 100 would help a little
i will be flying in and out of yyz from the US (usually SFO) restricted down to YYZ on saturday mornings...

How would GE help me? I do need to preclear at yyz coming back. I aint getting nexus anytime soon cuz of the delays by our fellow CBP....

GE lets you enter the US from anywhere in the world.

kaiotes May 24, 2013 6:18 pm

but this does not include preclearance?

The GOES guy said i do not get benefits (from GE) entering the US at the preclearance at YYZ

You benefit from GE if there are GE kiosks at your point of entry. All Canadian preclearance airports have GE kiosks.

kaiotes May 24, 2013 7:11 pm

How about when I leave from yyz?

Are there GE kiosks for departure?
I basically will use yyz as my entry and exit if GE can help.me accomplish this I will do GE again
