So you ARE a resident of Canada, not a visitor, but you have no place of residence here, and you are NOT a resident of the US, although you DO have a place of residence there. I get your headache now!

:)

I had the opportunity to switch to H-1B this year, but it required I be in the US for the first few weeks of April, and I was in Canada for Easter, not returning until April 2. We'll see how things line up next year though.

Why does that always sound like a fatal variant of the flu to me? ;)

Not to detour the thread or anything but ... Oh my gosh you have no idea! Every year they had to post my salary for 45 days so the public could verify no one was being exploited, and then the paperwork took ages to process and I was always undocumented for about two weeks waiting for the new visa, and would drive to Niagara Falls NY on Canada Day and gaze longingly across the border... My H1-B visa definitely made me ill on a regular basis.

Quick question. I just applied for this and I am going to try and schedule an interview during my next flight into Toronto on the 2nd week of July. How quick do I get the Nexus card once the interview is complete? I am flying into Montreal 2 weeks later and I was hoping to have it by then.

Isn't H-1B good for three years?

If the employer applies for it that way, it can be. Although I was offered a three-year visiting appointment, my university structured it as a renewable one-year appointment for up to three years. :p

Most have posted receiving the card under a week. My interview was Nov 1, got card Nov 7, which is the 4th business day after the interview. Card came by regular mail across the border from VT (which really puts the lie to blaming Canada Post for the Altitude kits!)

But seriously, an interview in July when you're in Toronto?? YYZ is booking September. Even the NF/FE are booking late July.

Expired Document

A quick question:

I have Nexus/GE, valid for 4 more years, with dual UK/Canadian passports registered. The Canadian passport is valid until 2016 but the UK passport just expired (haven't bothered paying the $240+ renewal fee yet). When I check in GOES, the information page shows "document expired". Anyone know if I'm likely to have issues using global entry?

I received my NEXUS card in the mail in Chicago after 5 days from the the date of the interview and approval. I did my interview in Fort Erie in Canada.

I was told that expired/changed documents would be a problem by the agent when I registered. For example, I have a Canadian work permit. If it expires, I can still legally enter Canada as a tourist, but without removing it, Nexus will not be happy.

I think you need to have them remove the UK passport for now until you have it renewed. This can probably be done on either the web or very quickly in the walk-in center at the airport.

The initial review took me about a month for both mine last Fall and my daughter's this spring. It's still under a month for you.

Conditional Approval: May 9, 2013
Interview: May 11, 2013
Approval: The US guy told me I was approved and I got the email as I was walking back to my car.
Card Received: May 23, 2013 (May 20 was a holiday) so 8 business days.

kaiotes May 24, 2013 11:10 am

Since it takes forever to get the app approved then get an appt at an inconvenient location (for me), would be YYZ
I live in the US....
should i just go pay the 100 for GE? How long does it take to get an appt? Say at SFO (my home airport) i will have more flights beginning in JULY
