Lourenço Marques (Maputo) to Durban, and also Johannesburg to Lourenço Marques (Maputo), the only time I have seen tracer fire on final approach.[/QUOTE]
Sorry to deny you your unique status on this one, but I flew Johannesburg to Lourenço Marques also. No tracer fire on that one for me (though I did see tracer fire as I flew HKG to BKK over Viet Nam in 1971).

This thread would be more interesting to me if it were "Flights between 2 airports no other flyertalker has ever done, but are still possible"
Seems like many of these were one-offs 10 or 15 or 20 years ago.
Here's my nomination for an unusual (but fun) flight that you could take today: PDX - PDT
Portland, OR to Pendleton, OR on SeaPort Air. For a fare ranging from $70 to about $115, depending on advance purchase, you can fly about 120 miles east to Pendleton on a 9 passenger Cessna. The route varies somewhat - I have been on flights which went right up the Columbia River Gorge, and others which skirted around the summit of Mt Hood. I have been on flights where I was the only passenger, and the pilot offered me gum....
On the return flight, PDT has no security - so the passengers are offloaded on the tarmac at PDX into a van, and driven around to the Departures area outside the secure area.
All in all, a lot of fun!

CID = Cedar Rapids IA; RAP = Rapid City SD
(but rare segments nonetheless)

Was based in Monrovia in 1979/80 and flew a few times on Air Liberia from Spriggs Payne (MLW) to Harper (CPA) and Buchanan (UCN). From memory I believe we flew on HS748's.
The 'free seating' meant that the boarding process made for an interesting experience. Rumours of overbooking meant that a dash for the steps was the only way of guaranteeing a seat. Fine for me back then, probably not now but obviously Air Liberia have long since left the stage.
Monrovia in those days was wild but reasonably safe. Even the coup in 1980 was not too dangerous - unless you were a Minister from the old regime. Still great memories of Gurley Street plus eats at El Meson. Happy days!!
