Just so you know, DNS queries for kvstool.com were also timing out for me from a number of different geographic locations. It appears you also had DNS issues at the same time.

Down again. Availability engine error. :td:
|
When I query for the LX40 flight ZRH LAX I cannot get the availability with the first two "sources". Using Galileo it does not show LX 40 when I search for J and Z class...puzzles me.
Also, given the downtime I think everyone with a subscription should get a one week extension as a courtesy. Just a suggestion. |
I agree with you. Plus an outage already happened end July/beginning August.

Working now.

Korean Air (KE) Award searches
I've been trying to find a way to do a search for awards on KE. I want to use my Delta SkyMiles, and rather than calling some DL phone agent to have them search for me, I'd rather do the searching (and consider all the possibilities) myself. Then I can just call DL and give them specific flights and dates I want to book.
Searching the KVSTool help file, I didn't find anything on KE Awards. Searching this thread, I had hits that indicate KE Award searches were supported in the past. But it appears that they aren't currently, at least since the DL-NW merger. Is that correct? Anyone have a suggestion for how to do an online search for KE award flights for a SkyMiles member? |

Considering I have never publicly published anything that searches *A inventory I'd say that not using anything I've done for that is a good idea. ;) And I do not dispute that the tool eases some of the searches. But when people don't realize that there are other free options I see no reason not to offer that help, especially when this one isn't working. But, thats not the goal. EVERY Website and EVERY computer on this world is sometime down. More or less often, but there are computers behind, where you never know, what happens. |

I doubt, that you get everthing for free which KVS provides.

Some very strange posts going on in here.
Been a KVS user since 2006 and very pleased with the tool. So easy having everything in one place (for me anyway). Anyone who doesn't want/like the tool should move along or start another thread. |
You tell me

"Commercial posts. Posts containing promotional messages for commercial products or services - including but not limited to Internet sites, business advertisements and solicitations to donate miles or points – are prohibited and will be removed. " This entire thread is publicity for KVS. KVS is a pay for-profit website. To me, this seems like a direct contradiction to the Flyertalk posting guidelines. To set the record straight, I am sure that KVS is a great website, and I"m sure it's a great tool. Maybe when it started, it was free, but now it is not. But my only problem with it, like sbm12, a moderator, is that this website charges FTers to use it. I don't know. It just seems like this is against FT posting guidelines since all these posts direct to KVS, which is a for-profit website. |

Been a KVS user for years and am 100% satisfied with it. I know the information is available for free but who has time now days to go to different websites to search for something you need. I pay KVS for developing the software for me so that I have everything I need in one place. I think its a bargain for frequent fliers. Again if it's not your scene then you are on the wrong thread pal. |

Regretfully, at the moment, there is no way to check for KE Y/C award availability either via the KVS Tool or any other tool/service that we are aware of (and KE F seats are not available for redemption as SkyTeam awards). |

Some background in two areas. For almost as long as FlyerTalk has been around, it has been a sort of an incubator for services for the traveler. FlyerTalk provided the attention and traction that allowed these various entities to blossom. Among those are SeatGuru, ExpertFlyer, KVS and others. So indeed there is a history of adoption of even commercial interests among our members and our history. But let's take a look at the difference of what commercial messages are. I think the practice on FlyerTalk is that we have little problem with commercial interests that can be of direct benefit to our members. BUT, we do not want any commercial messages that are here as an advertisement. In the examples above, the founders of SeatGuru, ExpertFlyer and even KVS have been active as general members as well, not totally here to sell something. We look for engagement in the community and while I would be the first to understand that is a fine line, at least we have the best interests of our members in mind. And while I think personally these types of Websites and services could be handled and managed better, there is no denying they have been useful to some of our members. And again, engagement in the community.
