Seat Maps: we're currently not able to show seat maps for flights departing within the next 24 hours for several airlines: DL, BA, QR , ANA, B6, & JL
Searches currently not working:
- Upgrades - AY, BA, EK, EY, IB, QR, VS
- Awards - AY, BA, IB, EY, QR, VS
To search AA upgrades:
- Use the Award & Upgrade tool
- Only search for individual segments (set the "Connection Preference" drop-down to "Direct/Non-Stop only"). Flight results that are part of a connection won't show the upgrade version of C or A inventory because AA only files upgrade inventory as individual, not married, segments. (Married segments show revenue inventory instead of upgrade inventory.)
- To avoid confusion, check the "Exclude Codeshares" box, as AA awards and upgrades are not valid on codeshares.

I am on AA 137 on 9/15. If I query LHR-LAX I get C0. If I put in my whole itinerary, SMF-FCO with a stop at LHR, for the return LHR-LAX leg it says C4.
I called LA and asked for the C availability on that flight, and they said there was none. I asked them if it was a "married segment" issue, and they said no.

Please explain why EF has C0 and C4 for the same segment, and AA EXP says no C availability no matter how you cut it.

There's no way around it -- it will not sell C unless it's available on each segment as standalone. I guess the married segment-driven increases by bucket get applied to availability, giving you the phantom availability, but the same increases do not apply to sales, and you end up with this discrepancy.

I am on AA 137 LHR-LAX Sept 15, 2013. An EF query LHR-LAX Upgrade Award and Availability shows C0. If I do an upgrade and Availability roundtrip query with my full itinerary, SMF-FCO with a layover at LHR, it shows AA 137 as C4. I called AA EXP and they said no availability. Why is there this discrepancy based on how the search is placed?
As for your question C0 is the correct answer. As is stated in the AA section for the Help of the Award & Upgrades results page.
For AA Upgrades, married segment logic does not apply, therefore to get the most accurate results, upgrade searches should be done segment by segment.
When searching for award/upgrade inventory to a destination that AA doesn't fly to, it is best to only do the search for segments that AA itself operates, and not include the segments that it doesn't. This will insure the most accurate results.

When searching for what appears to be a valid fare on EF, I received the following error:
I don't see a "Filter Results" option that I can set to Yes; moreover, the fare seems to be valid as it prices out on the airline's own website. Could you explain what this error might mean?
The information could not be displayed because the Fare Basis code you selected is not valid for the specified date. To return only valid Fare Basis codes for the date specified, perform a Fare Information search with the Filter Results option set to Yes.

How often (or frequently) does EF check for inventory alert and notify the member?
I had set an alert for C inventory on an international AA flight. It did not notify me. However I happened to check it manually on EF and found available C inventory.

I happened to find the seat I wanted at the front of economy on a BA flight just after it was released (about 72 hours before departure). EF notified me 75 min later.
For the return, seats were released early, and EF found the seat before I would have looked.
For around 20 flights over the last couple of years, the seat I wanted has always still been free when EF notified me.

- Wilmington is in Delaware, not Pennsylvania.
- At least one of these has a coterminal with the relevant airport, and so those fares should come up as well. The example I'm seeing is ZVE, which permits fares from HVN (this can be verified by doing a search on ITA or a dummy booking on united.com).

ExpertFlyer does not control if/how fares are filed with co-terminal information, that is up to the airlines and the GDS to return when the request is made.
