Hah! That is a joke. I don't know anyone who thinks Apple has good customer service. Just read a few threads on Apple's own BB. Customers are mostly left fuming at Apple, not to mention developers. That poll must have measured people who never had a problem or fanboys who line up at the Genius bar.
Satisfied customer don't post online of their experience

This is a discussion forum where we - you know - discuss things, even when [gasp!] not everyone agrees.

Using your model, every thread on FT would be no more than three or four posts long; the OP, someone agreeing, someone disagreeing, and you admonishing everyone to agree to disagree and to move on.
My personal opinion of Apple CS is that if your problem involves manipulation/operation of otherwise working hardware/software then they are good. If the issue involves hardware or software that isn't working properly then they are just about useless, e.g. "there is no problem, there is no flaw, just reformat, just do a restore", etc.
I initially found Apple's public admission today that yes, AppleMaps does indeed suck and suck hard, to be interesting. Then I realized that they didn't propose any sort of real solution, like restoring GoogleMaps to the ROM - in other words, business as usual.

No; rather, because the OP suggested--wisely, I think--that it would be helpful in keeping the thread on track:
I'm with the OP. I need to decide about iOS 6. After finding this thread yesterday, I was amused to see this news headline today:
Apple CEO sorry for maps shortcomings
(but let's please not turn this into another Apple bashing thread - there is one of those already)
I mainly am interested in peoples' opinions of the new OS as they update.

Rather I see people commenting on various aspects of and related to iOS6, which can certainly involve CS if, for example, someone contacts Apple CS about a perceived battery issue with iOS6.
I would however agree that turning this into a CS thread completely unrelated to iOS6 could be unfair to the OP.
As was I when I reported it a few posts up. After reading that I was in no way encouraged to think that Apple would be improving AppleMaps significantly anytime soon.

There is really only one way to show your disagreement with a poster - it involves the little triangle warning sign. It sends the moderators here an email telling us that someone needs help with a thead. There is no need for volunteer moderators.
As many of you know, this is a very hands-off forum - and the last thing I feel like doing is closing a "he said she said" thread about Android, Apple, iPhones or the best case for your Blackberry Playbook.
Reporting a post because someone is bashing Apple, Google, Samsung or anyone not a member of this board isn't going to help. Neither is taking a thread off topic then complaining about others doing the same.
Let's all keep this place fun - friendly banter is always welcome!

I suspect Google will have a version sooner or later, but given their history with Apple in recent months, I highly doubt they'll devote too many resources to that project.

I doubt it is that simple - it is not THEIR app to restore. They had a business relationship with Google, and decided to part ways.

Seriously though, I had hoped that the massive AppleMaps backlash might have made them consider doing something swift if drastic like renewing their licensing agreement with Google, if only until they could get their act together.
I read somewhere that Google said that any eventual app would have ads - which would suck - though I can't recall the source so I can't speak to the validity of the claim, but going through Safari certainly isn't the answer; slower, kludgy, and no integration.

The advantage to google to moving quickly is getting more data and exposure. The advantage to moving slowly is making Apple look bad and Android better by comparison.
Given the importance of maps to mobile, Apple likely felt it had no choice but to take control, even if it meant short-term pain.

I hate the new numpad for the iPhone dialing screen. I liked the black background with white numbers because I have some vision problems. Now I have to toggle it using the accessibility setting feature with white on black turned on. Anyone have any idea how I can revert back to the old type screen or something similar to that?

According to multiple reports: The version of google maps built into prior ios versions was designed by Apple, using data licensed from Google. The license has another year to run. It does seem to be Apple's decision.

Part of the google maps api agreement is that you will not do turn by turn directions.

From http://allthingsd.com/20120926/apple...ed-directions/
Spoken turn-by-turn navigation has been a free service offered through Googles Android mobile OS for a few years now. But it was never part of the deal that brought Googles Maps to iOS. And sources say Apple very much wanted it to be. Requiring iPhone users to look directly at handsets for directions and manually move through each step while Android users enjoyed native voice-guided instructions put Apple at a clear disadvantage in the mobile space. And having chosen Google as its original mapping partner, the iPhone maker was now in a position where an archrival was calling the shots on functionality important to the iOS maps feature set.
And this caused Apple which typically enjoys very tight control over its products no end of philosophical discomfort, sources say. Apple pushed Google hard to provide the data it needed to bring voice-guided navigation to iOS. But according to people familiar with Googles thinking, the search giant, which had invested massive sums in creating that data and views it as a key feature of Android, wasnt willing to simply hand it over to a competing platform.
By the way, make sure to get a backup before updating, some sites are reporting loss of contacts, pictures and music when upgrading. Seems to be more common on iphone 4 models done over the air instead of through ituned, but it doesn't hurt to make sure all your data resides someplace other than just the phone.
