You must be a pretty easy mark if that's all it takes to get under your skin.

Since doing all of the above, my battery is lasting 15+ hours a day. I am once again very happy

wow i hopped on this thread wondering whether to upgrade my 4s to iOS6 and I feel like im in an OMNI thread. Why does it have to be so partisan? Im an apple fanboi as many of you would say, i havent upgraded yet but will most likely do so. Why cant we keep these threads on topic? I could give 2 sh!ts about how much of their userbase they gained or lost, all i care about is are there issues i should worry about?

There are some iOS6 update issues; many are detailed earlier in this thread, though the bigger issues are for the iPhone 4 and earlier. Updating your 4S will take away YouTube and Google Maps, though you can do some simple tweaks to change this.

Careful with what some posters say about Apple. iOS 6 DOES NOT cause you to lose YouTube or Google Maps, both are easily accessible from the web, and you can easily create shortcuts to them on your home screen. Some people are severely biased against anything Apple. (this post is not directed at any particular poster).

With all due respect - Google maps on the web is not a replacement for the dedicated app.

problem: the youtube app that had been packaged with iOS disappears upon upgrading to iOS6

solution: go to the app store and download the new youtube app

---

problem: apple maps replaces google maps

solution: use google maps via safari (personally, i have been using apple maps and have not gotten lost, but others have found issues. i never use satellite view, so the distorted satellite pics do not affect me. my lack of annoyance with apple maps does not change the fact that apple has some work to do...)

i upgraded my iPhone 4 and have had no problems. my battery life has been steadily deteriorating for the last 3 or 4 months so i can't tell if the upgrade has affected battery life. i'll be getting an iPhone 5 in a couple of months when my contract is up, so i'll deal with this annoyance until then.

Totally with you on every point. The Apple Maps are actually fairly good. Yeah there's a few flaws, but I find I like it. I do use Google maps through the browser, but it's only really good for checking traffic, or finding an address not found on Apple maps.

Mooper failed to mention the youtube app in the app store, so I was glad you mentioned it.

Indeed. When I had an issue with Maps not working, the website was an extremely poor substitute for the app. The Google Map app's tight integration with so many other apps I use make this a non-starter for me.

(I'm wanting to upgrade to a 4S from a 4 -- always stay a generation behind is my motto -- but want to be sure the AT&T refurbs do not have 6 or if they do if it is downgradable.)

Sure, but Google maps are still available, despite what some posters would have you believe. I am sure Google will continue to upgrade the web maps experience. Apple maps are no where near as bad as some some people would have you believe, and in some areas better than Google maps. My primary map app is the Apple maps.

That's an excellent question. One that I've asked myself and has been met with disdain.

So, is complaining about the posting habits of others in a thread about iOS6 considered on-topic?

Were you referring to me? The iOS6 upgrade *does* remove Google Maps and YouTube; I never said you lose them forever. In fact, I was explicit in pointing out that they are easy to add back. This is precisely what I said:

That said, it is rather annoying that iOS 6 forces you download apps they've removed and tweak settings to preserve battery life. Perhaps in the future they'll just make it work without additional steps being needed. Also, Google Maps via a web browser can be decent, but is nowhere nearly as robust as a native app. On the bright side, if you're updating an older iPhone to iOS6, at least you don't have to deal with the WiFi, halo, and other iPhone 5 bugs, as well as a case that is scratched more easily and its proprietary charger.
