I think I'll be ordering one tomorrow morning. I have a 16GB 3G and I am looking forward to the upgrade. I think I'll go the 32GB route.
Nobody knows the exact sale time though. People are guessing 8-10 PT.

So what is the cheapest iPhone plan, $40 for 450 minutes plust $15 for data (200 GB) plus how much for texts?
So 20% off that would be around $50 plus tax give or take like $5?

With no additional plan, SMS are 20 cents each, MMS are 30 cents each. All that info is readily available on the AT&T web site or your corporate gateway site.

I did look around but all I saw were voice and data plans. Maybe if I go through the selection of those plans, the text plan would have come up.
Anyone use one of the free texting apps?
I guess they work by ads or you pay for them. Read an article that Text Plus was a startup funded by VC and they're paying the phone companies way more than they're making on revenues right now. So they may not be in business too long.
I downloaded Text Now but apparently you have to create an email address of some kind. Does that mean people text you by sending email to a email-to-SMS gateway? So these free texts use your data allotment instead of your SMS allotment?

not only do you get an email address, but you also get a phone number for texting (calling it gets a 'sorry this is just for texting go get our app' message). everything is sent over a data connection (3g or wifi), so there are no texting charges and it supports push notifications with user selectable sounds too. it is well worth the price of admission, even before they made it free.
i tried text now. it didn't work properly.

+1 for textfree. Works great, the ADS are very UNobtrusive and it saves a lot of money. You can set it to ALERT you via text or push when a txt comes in, or via email if you like. That way you know when someone texts you and then you can just carry on the conversation via the app - saving all the texts.
