I think it's pretty impressive phone
Once their operating system allows for widgets and shortcuts then they could compare with Android 1.5
Because now folders are cool, since the iPhone can handle them
Also, what up with the "retina" naming, but the gyroscope would be cool, and of course, no one can compare to the App Store with the 200,000+ apps. Good luck using them in a 2GB restricted plan

Just getting started on developing a few apps (not personally but via a developer) the additional api's are an exciting addition. This opens some doors without adding size.

My guess is including a 2.4ghz only chip in the handset was done to save power, adding more battery life...

It may be that the antenna system they have would require additional testing and certification for 5 Ghz operation.
Or maybe there was higher licensing costs for 5 Ghz too.
Maybe also they see that most of the 802.11n routers sold are single-band, not dual-band. Certainly the former are cheaper.

I don't want to turn this into an Android VS iPhone debate - but at the speed phone companies are making new phones, Apple is having a harder time than ever keeping up.
The new iPhone display is nice - but do you really think they'll be the only one using it for more than 2 or 3 months?
Gyroscopes? Give it 6 months till others have it. There is no denying that Apple is an innovator, and that others follow, but their relatively slow developement timeline is going to hurt them in the long run.

It's amazing what good marketing can do. It's even more amazing that, after three years, I might finally break down and get an iPhone.

Longtime Apple fan (on my 8th mac machine) and proud/happy owner of two iPhones here: no doubt Steve is the leading innovator in the industry. But folks are catching up, especially given that partner (AT&T) has pretty much screwed the 3G network up, 4G is out, and Android is an open system.
Only time will tell and the new iPhone looks really slick! But this is one time I'm not jumping on the band wagon for the new iPhone.

Hmm. I checked and seem to be eligible for an upgrade.

In many ways it is - it just doesn't last long. And now so many companies are playing catchup (and Motorola is back in the game), the time their technology leads is getting shorter than ever.

I'm going to wait until later in the year, when we see what HTC cooks up after having seen the new iPhone's specs. Something like that with Froyo could be...very compelling.

Yeah. Though I have to admit (and reiterate) that this is the first iPhone I've ever seriously considered.

And it's pointless to note how biased somebody is (not you, gfunkdave), but it should be obvious from his own posts.

You're seriously going to play the waiting game? You know that there will always be another cool phone/feature/device/whatever just around the corner, don't you? At what point do you buy what you want and decide not to wait? In a year or two or even less there will be something better. There always is.
