To see which apps are "multitasking," you double-click on the round button. You will see 4 apps lined up across the bottom, and if you scroll them sideways you will see a lot more...in my case, 17 apps. I was able to turn a couple of them off by holding down the app until they begin to quiver, then selecting individual apps. However, most of them don't seem to want to go to sleep...like Hal from the movie 2001.
I would pay 99 cents for an app that said, "Im afraid I cant do that Dave". And my name isnt even Dave

According to the release notes on the latest version of Twitter, your twitter feed will always be updating while running other apps.

try the macrumors.com forum, there will be a ringtone thread with a link to a download and ringtones in there. Then, just bring them OVER to your itunes library and they will be added to your itunes and then sync'd with your iphone. then, just select that ringtone for whatever action you want. The number of actions is somewhat limited, but incoming call, alert, sms, new message etc. can all be linked with specific ringtones.

There is also a HAL 9000 battery icon in the Cydia repository. Depending on just how much of a 2001 geek you are?

I downloaded about 30 old rock classics for free; haven't used them for over 1 year and their website has been updated: http://audiko.net/

I just downloaded OS 4.0 for my 3G. So far it's been about an hour and the progress window says it's still backing up the iPhone. Any experience out there with how long the upgrade on a 3G might take? I'll post my results when it finishes.

Edited to add: it's a 16GB phone with 3.91GB free

My 3g update was agonizingly long. I think something went wrong at some point and it went into a full restore cycle which seemed to take forever. I finally gave up watching the update and went to do something else. About an hour later it was almost finished. Total time probably around 1:45 - 2 hours. I'm getting an iPhone 4 today so I really didn't need to do the update; I was just curious to see a few of the changes.

That'll be news to Apple, they've said that the white won't be available until July!

Multi-tasking is not available for 3G phones; not sure what other goodies make it worth while to upgrade to Version 4?

I wish apple would create a comparison chart so that 3G users know they will get before taking the plunge to upgrade.

Restoring the OS didn't take long, maybe an hour for my 3G.

But then restoring your last backup with your Apps., for me I left it going overnight because it was taking all evening and iTunes indicated which app. it was installing.

Very slow process but I had like 5-6 GB of apps.

Orange says "item in stock" with 3 day delivery time. The phone company wouldn't lie, would they?

Apple announced manufacturing "challenges" as the reason for the delay of the white ones.

Maybe you don't want to pick up one of the early batches that made it out before they realized these issues.
