Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa to Rebrand

The riverside resort is set to join Minor’s luxury hotel brand, Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas.

Minor International has enjoyed a strong and fruitful relationship with Marriott over the years, and both companies will continue to work together with their additional properties in Thailand, including the JW Marriott in Phuket and Marriott resorts in Pattaya and Hua Hin.

Radisson Hotel in Bangkok Rebrands

The 24-storey Radisson Hotel on Soi Saengcham, Rama IX Road in Huay Kwang, Bangkok, has been officially rebranded as the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel.

Golden Tulip CEO, Olivier Derycke, said, “The new hotel compliments our Golden Tulip Mangosteen in Phuket and our soon-to-be opened Golden Tulip Mandison Suites on Sukhumvit Road. We look forward to a continuous and successful roll-out of our brands in Thailand and throughout the region.”

I heard from people with bookings coming up in December and January and some who have booked using Marriott points ... all being honored by the property. So you shouldn't have any problem for July stay.

Tourism faces a dip after quake

With all due respect and condolences to the affected,

... we should see some great Thailand hotel bargains in the next 6 months or so.

Geez, I don't know, Kal. I don't recall hotel prices going down much, if at all, during and after last Spring's protests.

I agree. IIRC, the press reported that hoteliers realized that decreasing prices during the redshirt and sars tourism-drops did nothing, writ-large, to increase demand. By dropping prices they just diminished revenue from clients who were going to come no matter what.

In other words, getting into a price-war and cutting revenue by half to gain an extra 10-percent in bookings generated less revenue and more operating expense than simply holding the line on revenue and forgoing the discount travellers.

This being Thailand, gentlemen's agreements to hold prices are probably common, once all parties understand it is in their best interest.

That said, a fatman can dream ...

Noted!

Also, Thai tourist groups de-emphasizing western markets for 2011:

And, more significantly, tourists to see SE Asia on single visa

Single Asian visa.... Wouldn't that be awesome.

... but, how long until we see that reality? before 2016? I doubt it.

There are buckets of cash in visa fees within those 65 million tourists. And they're going to do what, revenue sharing?

I guess we could only dream.

I'm skeptical. How would Thailand be able to red mark passports at the embassy in Vientiane?
