I didn't realize there was a Hotel chatter thread here in the Thailand section.
This was posted on the Marriott thread some time ago, but for those that might not monitor probably worth repeating here.

4 Marriott Courtyards have been de-flagged in Thailand. This has already happened and are not longer part of the Marriott family.

The properties in Phuket are the Courtyard by Marriott hotels in Patong, Kamala and at Surin Beach. The fourth hotel to no longer operate as a Marriott brand is the Courtyard by Marriott in Hua Hin.

The Courtyard Bangkok is still operating, and from what I can tell, is now the only Courtyard operating in Thailand.

This is a bit of an old thread! But, do any of you have thoughts on the Crowne Plaza Lumpini? I have 80k PC points thanks to my new Chase PC visa card. Plus one free night I guess. The points apparently qualify me for automatic platinum status but not sure if that matters all that much. I have a few other favorites around town, but my points could go a long way at this hotel. I know most people seem to talk about the IC Bangkok instead but obviously that is more points and the location is a tiny bit less desirable for me.

Though noone could help me, I helped myself and got this response from Hilton (with kind help of HHonorsRepresentive):

It is my pleasure to confirm both properties, the Hilton and Doubletree Sukhumvit, are scheduled to open March 2013. What does this question have to do with the thread topic?

Anyhow, I did the VAT thing yesterday and was told the BKK customs office in departures was open 24 hours a day.

The counter beyond security (reached after a long, long walk past many, many "duty free" shops) where you get the actual cash back was open at 7:20am, don't know if it is 24 hours a day too.

If possible, opt for credit card refund of tax.

+1 on Kingston Suites. Just left there on the 9th. Loved the location and the hotel itself. If you want answers or transportation ask the tuk tuk driver, Mr Tann. I used him, (he owns a taxi) to take me to the Temple of Monkeys in Lom Puri

hotel near airport?

Any recommendations for a cheap/reasonably priced hotel near/easily accessible from Suvarnabhumi? (not the Novotel or any hotels down town, pls). I will arrive 10PM and depart 8AM nxt morning, so I will just need a bed for few hours and head back for the Royal Silk/Orchid lounge early in the morning.

I recall that this isssue has been discussed many times before, but a quick search did not reveal any recent answers. Thx

Rates start from under 1.000 THB per night if you book at agoda.com

I think this question had its own thread recently. You can search asiarooms.com or agoda.com and limit it to the airport area. Lots of choices within a few minutes of the airport in the Bt1000-2000 range. I don't have any personal experience with any of them but you can check reviews when you search. ANd since you won't be there for long you should be fine.

Out of curiosity- why not the Novotel? I have had good experiences there overall.

imho way too pricey for what you get ... the rate is for a 5 star hotel, but you just get the quality of a 3 or 4 star hotel ...

True, you are paying a lot for the convenience- however it is very convenient indeed.

Stating the obvious, I know, but the high price reflects the convenience rather than the stars.

You can get a handle on the convenience factor from the pricing of the Amari Airport, the "Novotel" of Don Muang. Now in the THB1000-ish ball park.
