Ok - so I've attempted to tally up the opinions as best I could based on who has posted in this thread - correct me if I'm wrong (but note that I should be packing as I'm heading to DC to fly to IST tomorrow & will have VERY limited access through the 17th).
Majority that have expressed what I believe to be a clear opinion at this time are against this motion. Feel free to clarify and correct me...apologies in advance if I've spelled your handle wrong. Note that this tally does not include TB members. Despite the edits, this only includes members who posted prior to this posts' original post. I realise the stats are pretty raw and the survey is limited to those who expressed a view in this thread which obviously doesn't take into account the thousands of active FT members that didn't. Still the results are pretty stark, no?

The percentages would be different if you polled the compromise package (count everything EXCEPT games). I don't believe the "count everything" proposal would have passed without an expectation that games would be segregated and not counted.

Not surprisingly, most of the people 'for' the motion mostly post in non-Miles&Points forums (with a few notable exceptions). Given that the motion was passed, it is clear what community the TB represent. I'm glad to see that TB is representing the core mission of FT . Something is wrong here. It'll go the same way with the games threads. No-one seems to be bothered that people are cheating their way to FT status. I guess because these are the same people that spend most of their time in the non M&P forums. |

Come now, the compromise proposals are meer band-aids to patch the effects of this motion.
If you mean that the compromise mitigates some easily foreseeable adverse consequences to counting everything, then I agree. That doesn't make it a patch any more than getting $2 change from $20 for an $18 item is a patch for not having the exact change. The item is $18 and always was $18. It was never a $20 item. Read RichMSN's posts describing his compromise offer. The first proposal was not intended by 2/3 of the TalkBoard to take effect on its own. Are we clear on that, or is the 2-step process that the TalkBoard used impeding your understanding? |

Rather stark when you put it like that Prospero.

I consider those who post mostly in OMNI to be not a single bit less FTers than anyone else. I know others feel differently. |
I have a moderate outlook on things so I'll try not to become overly earnest.
OMNI was a special place, it had unique boundaries with a unique policy of admission. To me it was FlyerTalk's egg florentine. What this motion has done is spread marmite over my hollandaise and I fall into the camp that detests marmite with a passion. There is little that can be done to salvage my breakfast other than ask the kitchen to rustle up a replacement. I doff my hat to Randy. I truly do. His executive decision to remove the ongoing debate of post count away from TB was a bold one. I can see very clearly that the logic behind this served the greater good, the interests of TB and the entire FlyerTalk community. Anyway, I'll bow out now. My diary is still clear for next January :) |

And unfortunately, that's always been my opinion of quite a bit of what the former "benevolent" dictator did. |

In my opinion, it did nothing but alienate quite a few people.
And unfortunately, that's always been my opinion of quite a bit of what the former "benevolent" dictator did. There were decisions Randy took that I also disagreed with. Using CommBuzz!! as a hit generator served no one but Randy. However, that's not to say he was wrong on other calls. His decision to remove the endless cycle of debates relating to post cost was an astute one. Credit were credit is due. |

In other words, I believe that the TalkBoard will finally put this issue to bed for a long, long time. |

A quick back of a napkin calculation based on the list of members in favour of this motion versus those against (as captured on 10 January). Registering their most recent 100 posts and tallying up the number posted in FT's Miles&Points forums.

Thanks for the research effort. The results are merely confirming what I would expect them to confirm: to show that individuals tend to care about posts counting in forums in which they post or which host subjects in which they are otherwise rather extensively interested. What would have been a surprise is if the results were opposite of that.
