I've decided I'm done talking about all of this. I've posted too much today in an effort to answer each and every person who's posted and I've realized now that people are pretty entrenched in their positions. So I'll bow out on this particular issue and move on to the next thing -- it'll have nothing to do with OMNI or counting. As you'd said, this has passed and will be implemented and the other motions are still active (but I won't be posting there, either, as I've already voted).

That boat went under the bridge long ago. OMNI is the most popular forum on FT (UA was back when you and I joined). As it is the most popular, every FTer should be welcome there. Right now the most popular forum on FT is a restricted forum that most FTers cannot access and post in. I notice a number of members that use OMNI as their "home" forum. No reason that every FTer can't also make it their home forum if they want.

Actually that's not true. Flyertalk is for anyone who has an interest in travel, regardless of mode of transport, or how often they travel.

Flyertalk also offers many forums, and FTers are welcome to peruse any that are of interest to them. Only 2 have entry requirements (180/180) & those are primarily to avoid problems such as spammers. Once an FTer has met those requirements, then all forums are available to them.

And it's not appropriate for one FTer to dictate to another which forum or which thread is 'acceptable' IMO.

Flyertalk is not just for flyers. I have been here a long time and I read more than I post. I have pretty much eliminated my travel by air due to the excesses of the TSA. Just because I don't post in certain areas does not mean I am not there reading and learning. There are many reasons why people come to FT. Some travel and some don't.

It's not personal to Rich. It's a widespread question to anyone who thinks that Omni=Flyertalk. I believe that Omni is secondary to Flyertalk. And I am addressing all the TB members here, as well as everyone else who is interested in this topic. That's why this thread has stayed alive after the vote. We wouldn't still be discussing it here if there wasn't an issue that needed addressing and it's never good to stifle discussion.

I would like to see a motion that Flyertalk prominently displays on the Flyertalk home page, and at the top of Omni, that Omni is secondary to the travel forums on Flyertalk and that Flyertalk exists for travelers. Omni exists only for topics that fall outside of travel and those topics are not what this board is about. I don't know how motions work here, but if someone could present this for a vote I would be grateful.

If that is true, the it would be wise for the owners and masters of this board to create a new and separate board called Omni. It could even be linked to this board and people could keep their handles. It would be a trivial task (relative to a completely new site) and I am sure that all the people who use Omni would continue to use it. But it should not be the heart of Flyertalk, or in any way an equal part of Flyertalk. And if it is truly super popular, it will grow well on its own and be more profitable for the owners.

Didn't you just dictate to me that I shouldn't be discussing this subject in this thread? Don't individual moderators do exactly that throughout Flyertalk?

Isn't that pretty much covered in the FT Mission Statement? Nothing in there about OMNI and I have not seen any Talk Board member make any mention, at least on the public forums, of changing it.

Clearly it's not "all travel, all the time", though, even though it says that.

I think you should propose that Omni posts be enumerated at a rate of three-fifths per post. Got to keep those uppity Omni-ites in their place, ya know. :rolleyes:

No I didn't. I did say that I didn't think it was appropriate for a FTer to tell another FTer which forum is core to their experience; that FTers are allowed to choose for themselves. I also said that it was MO & OVMV.

And what does MO and OVMV mean? MO means Mandarin Oriental to most travelers I think. ;)
