Maybe there needs to be an analysis of those who voted on this had their post count effected/inflated as a result... Surely no correlation, right?
Next I am going to make a motion that TB members' posts count twice. ^ |

Or it might be there was a topic they wanted to post on. Unless you plan on PMing everyone to find out if posts counting is the only reason they posted, you really can't say it was due to turning posts back on on. I'd venture to say that those who like to play games don't really care that their games no longer add to their post count. It evens out. Shrug.
Realizing I've added to it, hopefully this thread will die down & we can move on to other things such as new forums, wikipedia, etc. Cheers. But I also think this issue made people more aware of Omni and they're now checking it out. |

But speaking for myself as a regular FTer, I'm rather tired of the subject at this point & am hoping everyone can move on. There are other forums being considered, and koko said once stuff gets announced threads die down - still waiting for that :p Cheers. |

Well, I've identified at least 2 people who were posting their hearts out all over FT, but never in Omni. As soon as the switch was turned on, presto-change-o, they started posting in Omni.
;) |
I can't help it if I subscribe to a lot of forums, and one of these, ahem, post padders also frequents many of the same forums :D
The other has been around for years and disappeared from Omni when the post counts did. I can't help it if I know alot of people :) |

Because the Community Director assured everyone that counting posts in OMNI would not be retroactive...
I have a mantra about FlyerTalk that "no change is too small to go unnoticed". That's not relevant to this situation. I think I need a new mantra something to the effect of "Change will often have unintended consequences." |

It was my intent that we go forward with no post count readjustment. In my naivete about the vb software, I thought that posts would be moved from non counting Omni to non counting OMNI/Games with no impact on post count. (Yes, I know that I inadvertently set up the Omni/Games forum for a few hours so that posts counted there, but that was quickly corrected.) So I was taken as off guard as the people impacted when they found their post counts drop. People care when their post counts drop, so that needed to be corrected. And apparently the only way to do that with any meaning was to do a rebuild on post counts, so that then had the impact of all past uncounted OMNI posts now counting. I, myself, don't quite understand what happened and why, but anyone involved did it with the best of intent for the board.

As of yesterday I'm no longer a posting Evangelist and I'm reasonably sure my post count is significantly lower than before this started - I think I was somewhere around 8500 posts and now I'm under 7000. Of course, like all of the others posting, I hasten to add that I don't really care what my post count is... ;) I'm asking for an "Explanation for Dummies" just to be helpful. :p |
Thx to whomever for recognizing my contributions to this community.

I hadn't followed the "which-posts-count" discussion at all closely, although I realized there was a TalkBoard motion, but I noticed the other day that I was now an Evangelist with over 11,000 posts. I've played the "People Association" thread quite a bit, although not recently and have visited OMNI quite rarely otherwise. Perhaps my posts went up temporarily during that window you mention.

IBobi made a post explaining this in the Technical Issues forum, but, the gist is...your post count went up to reflect the posts you've made in OMNI where posts are now counting. Your post count went down when any of the game threads you've participated in were moved to OMNI Games where posts are not counting.
Hope that helps. :) I think some would agree it's an ironic occurrence in a forum in which so many of us spend so much time keeping statistics and seeking transparency in our airline, hotel and other statistics. ;) Time for me to return to those windmills. :) |
