He decided to sort of re-open the "OMNI-gate". OMNI had been open to viewing by everyone for more years than OMNI has not been open to viewing by everyone.

You do know that post padding isn't allowed?

No, you can't. Or at least, doing so is against FT rules.

While post padding is against the TOS, the Omni mods have clearly said they do not consider counting very different than one one replies in other counting areas of FT.

I disagree, but it's not my decision to make.

I certainly hope the new Talk Board revisits this issue and restores access for everyone.

I'm not sure that TB will be allowed to achieve that.

Given the situation now, on FT but also beyond FT, if that were to be allowed, I'm not sure that it would necessarily "improve" matters compared to even before. The "concern" of some might be that OMNI ends up like the Yahoo news comments section -- an outcome which isn't going to do a whole lot of good for anyone beside maybe IB or those who want to see OMNI eventually disappeared.

Will this sentiment continue when Omni posts start counting?

Thanks..

What I was meaning, was whether the moderator sentiment continue status quo?

Motion Failed: Restore Post Count Credit for Omni says

On 8 August 2011 the TalkBoard failed to pass by a vote of 4-5

Motion Failed: Include OMNI posts in Post Counts says

On 29 February 2008, the TalkBoard failed to pass, 3-6

Maybe if the topic keeps coming up every 2 months instead of every few months, it will eventually pass.

I'm still convinced this topic is brought back for the sake of argument.

That's three times in 5 years. And I ran for TB partially because of the most recent vote. Should my hands be tied by previous TalkBoard decisions?

And, BTW, some of the no votes are now yes votes, specifically because of the compromise proposed.

Actually, that was 4 years ago and not 5 year.

Do you actually expect things to be fixed? There have been countless issues with FT over the past two years, such as members not receiving email updates, chat going down for extended periods of time, database errors, and the failed implementation of a replacement for FT Premium. Time after time, IB comes on to say that they'll get back to us. After a few months pass, and people start to get annoyed with IB, they come back for a brief time, while things stay the way they were on day 1 of the problem.

How about working on things to improve FT, instead of wasting time debating whether or not OMNI should count?

tom911 Jan 23, 2012 6:53 pm

Do any of those issues fall within the purview of the Talk Board?

I would think that they have some influence over them.

Why not bang on them to fix errors that have been around FT for a long time?

SkiAdcock Jan 23, 2012 8:39 pm

Since technical issues have zero to do with posts counting in Omni, I'd say we've gotten a bit off-target with this thread.

But as long as we are ;), as a regular FT member, I'm a bit annoyed with some of the technical hiccups, the occasional appearance by IB to say they're looking/working on it, and then not hearing back. I'm not sure being a TB member when it comes to technical issues has any more influence than multiple FTers complaining about technical problems.

Cheers.
