Verdict in 24hours.. Hopefully its sooner than that..
|
In the end run, who cares? The counts only tell how many times someone has posted; they say nothing about the quality of the posts. How much benefit is there in a "+1" post? What extremely high post counts tell me most often is that the poster really needs to get a life outside FlyerTalk (moderators excepted, of course).

Yes, you're right. Neither of the last two posters were even around FT during the 2008 period where Randy woke up in the middle of the night and flipped a switch and then went back to bed.
Thank goodness this vote will be over in the next day or so. |

So our opinions aren't worth as much because we didn't join in 2008?
However you didn't have the experiences of Omni counting, and all of a sudden, the padders took over. Had they not done so, life would have gone on as before and everyone's posts would have counted. |
I have lost some posts when they removed the count in OMNI, something like 5,000, but it all doesn't matter. Most of the stuff people post is non sense anyways
What's the difference between someone posting in OMNI in one of those counting games #456,239 or someone in United that ORD is a mess One is a number that is a constant, and the other one, well, it's just a constant :p It's not like we are putting any weight into the validity of someone's post based on their count, and if you do, I have a top of the line minivan that I am willing to sell you for $100,000 |
I do not think that OMNI posts should count. One of the items that I look at when people make recommendations in the M&P/T&D areas are their post counts. Yes, it doesn't mean that someone is more knowledgeable or not but it is a smell test to see if they are a "contributing" community member or not.
In a perfect world. I would be happy if we could see two sets of post counts. OMNI/Non-OMNI because they have a contributing community to and this "smell test" applies to them as well. Unless that can happen, I would recommend we not co-mingle the post counts. |

Post counts most certainly carry weight. They indicate the degree to which someone actually participates in "flyer" portion of FT and has, dare I say, gravitas. Inflated post counts from political grenade tossing prevalent in OMNi/PR should not be a part of the regular FT travel forum. Let the children have their own post separate count.
Sorry, that's not where I draw the line. I'd prefer we simply didn't draw any line. |

Why am I not surprised?
A few dozen vocal people in this thread and a few others here aren't going to sway me from a position I've held since "apostheid" took effect in 2008. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/talkb...ni-omnipr.html Besides, the two motions (about games forums) currently being voted on should tell you how the votes have fallen thus far for this motion. Tomorrow, everyone will get the final result. |

You shouldn't be surprised. I was very clear in my position when I ran for TalkBoard. So was koko. We won election.

Value the post for the message it has, not for the number underneath the person posting it. Sure, it's nice to see that a person is "active", but just because of that, their word should not be taken as gospel. I posted in OMNI quite a bit, and I can tell you, some information is just as valuable as some of the "lounge" threads in the airline forums. Just a place to discuss topics that concern you with people that have similar interests as you do "i.e. flying" I value the opinions in OMNI, as I've been know to ask for assistance in that forum |
Only Frequent Fluer feedback (about flying) should count
Flyertalk is unique as a forum for those have to (or want to) fly frequently. I think it's acceptable for any post concerning flying, or frequent flyer memberships and membership benefits accorded by the airlines e.g. lounges, to count. Anything extra - OMNI, etc. restaurants, other topics, should not count. There are enough other fora where such things can be discussed. Flyertalk is unique for its focus on the activities of flying - actual flying and its various aspects. So no those other types of posts should not count.
