With due respect, I'm not sure that you have full information or a complete grasp of the situation.

I know that my posts count just as much as yours, and I don't feel discriminated against.

Not sure why you don't understand this, but I'll try again. If we both post "Good morning", but I post in a Lounge thread and you post in OMNI, your post DOESN'T count just as much as mine.

If we post post in a Lounge thread - both our posts count. If we both post in OMNI - neither of our posts count.

The rules are the same for every poster. No one is being discriminated against.

And if you post in a Lounge thread and I post exactly the same thing in OMNI?

Go up in the thread and read the post I made about the evolution of OMNI in the first place. It basically started as 'lounge' or 'box' threads that built community. Those threads were eventually collected and deposited into their own forum called OMNI.

Then a new generation of FTers and mods came along and started the process over again with the box and lounge threads. We could collect those threads and put them in their own forum, but the participants in the Lounge and Box threads are vehemently against that. It has been suggested to leave the lounge/box threads on the mileage forums but have them not count. But the software does not support that option.

So we've got old OMNI (OMNI) posts that do not count and new OMNI (Lounge and Box) posts that do. Yet the two 'communities' are treated differently. IMHO that's the inconsistency that we are addressing.

OK... we get it. It's been explained to you plenty of times, but you're refusing to acknowledge what we're saying because you disagree with the motion.

Exactly! ^

Except that counting ALL posts regardless of the forum doesn't address the inherent inconsistency created when Randy decided to stop counting OMNI posts. That's why I object to this motion. I'd prefer to see a motion to stop counting posts altogether once someone hits 180.

I refuse to agree that posters are treated differently, because they are not.

Some posts are treated differently, but all posters are treated the same.

Sure they are. If I joined prior to the date when OMNI posts stopped counting and you joined after that date, yet we have an equal number of non-OMNI posts, my post count will be higher than yours by the number of OMNI posts that I made before they stopped counting.

I refuse to agree that posters are currently treated differently, because they are not.

Some posts are current treated differently, but all posters are currently treated the same.

I understand that position. But FTers like to count things like miles and points...and posts, and we like to run up our numbers. That's pretty much the core point of FT. :)

That being the case, I don't think the post count needs to be eliminated. And if folks want to run it up for sport, God bless 'em. As I've said, I tend to view anyone with 500-20,000 posts pretty much equally. And I tend to feel sorry for folks with > 20,000 posts as I worry that they have no life. ;)

More broadly, some forums are treated differently. I have said that OMNI is the red-headed step-child of FT, while box and lounge threads are the favored toe-heads. @:-)

You know what breaks my little e-heart? I talked in my campaign about how I loved Flyertalk because it was a COMMUNITY. And now we've gone on for TWENTY TWO PAGES of back and forth bickering with no ground given by either side. No one has an open mind, we're resorting to snark, name calling, vitriol. Also, we're sitting here in this thread and going back and forth instead of contributing to the threads that are substantive (in OMNI and elsewhere). I guess I'm no better but I'm still saddened by it.
