Thanks for the link. The trick is with these:
Quote:
▪ The passenger reserves a specific seat characteristic (e.g. Classic Seat aisle, Classic Seat window, Extra Legroom Seat, Preferred Seat Zone) not a dedicated seat row/number.
▪ Nevertheless, a seat row/number is disclosed to the passenger, provided that the terms and conditions of advance seat reservation (ASR) are sufficiently communicated during the booking process.
▪ In the event of operationally necessary aircraft or cabin changes, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS reserve the right to reseat the passenger with best efforts to a seat of the same characteristic as originally booked.
▪ If the original seat characteristic cannot be provided, the passenger may request a refund.

Which, lets be honest - is robbery. Or at the least false advertising. When purchasing a seat they don't give the pax a choice to select and pay for (what they call) one of the seat characteristics, even though that's what they are actually selling. Rather, they let the pax choose a specific seat. Its very obvious why - when one is asked to pay just for the benefit of being guaranteed a "Regular isle seat" ... nobody would actually purchase this service. If they would just offer a service to pay 14-29 euro per flight per segment to guarantee an isle seat for example then all of this is fair. But that's not what they advertise when selecting a seat.
Sure the PDF may be linked somewhere in the fine print, but if in big print a specific seat is advertised and selected - and that's then that's what is expected for the fees paid. While other airlines do something similar, I believe they would happily refund your money if your seat reservation is annulled. And that makes sense because I'd argue that a standard isle seat in row 6 is not the same as a standard isle seat in row 26.
Personally I've had so many bad experiences with Swiss that I'm thinking to see if a credit card chargeback is an option here. Not because its a lot of money, but because I feel that Swiss is dishonest. Not once, but on multiple occasions over the last few years. Which is a real pity as I used to fly them a lot - and enjoyed doing so. Especially on the B777 to ATH which could be a killer deal in Business class at times :)
