Thanks. The nature of the LX seat indeed is such that the feet go underneath the table of the row in front. The rows are off-set, slightly staggered. The seats in pairs with two tables are similarly boxed-in to thrones in that sense. 5D is a throne-like seat in a pair and thus has the narrower footwell but also less exposure to the aisle than its neighbor 5G. (A333)
6G is a bulkhead and throne-like so has the wider footwell. My order of preference (bearing in mind that I have status and do iPhoto have to pay for preferential seats on LX) is: 6A bulkhead throne 6G bulkhead throne-like in a pair 5D non-bulkhead double throne-like in mini cabin 6D bulkhead double exposed to aisle The last two are a judgement call, on a day flight I'd pick the mini cabin because it is often quieter. On a night flight I might pick the bulkhead because of the extra foot space (and my relatively large feet). The first depends on your willingness to pay, and IMO 6G is still a good seat. By now 6G is gone so i have to decide between 5D, 6D or 14K the later being throne likish a far as privacy without the right-side table but also the last row (no barrier to prem Y?) Night flight Whats your take on this ? |

ZRH-LAX in J, solo traveler, prefers window seats.
Is 4K pretty much the best window seat besides the thrones? |

JFK to GVA, A330-300. Priority is to SLEEP, which I have a hard time doing, overnight flight. Solo.
Currently in 4D. 4K and 5K also available. So is a bunch more in rows 6-14. Am I in the right seat? |

A330 econ bulkhead review - 23K
Just returned from Zurich. Thought I'd post a couple pictures of seat 23K on a Swiss A330, as this was info I found somewhat hard to find. 23AB would have the mirror of these JK 'cubbies'. 22DFG appeared to have quite good legroom also, no cubbies, though I did not have a chance to test it. Only once did I notice someone cut across DFG to change aisles and it was a youth wanting to talk to the person in 23J (unrelated to me). I thought the extra space was reasonably priced at $104 upcharge. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...dfb478cf2.jpeg Swiss economy seat 23JK bulkhead cubby space Plenty of legroom. No stowage during takeoff or landing, though FAs didn't mind the pillow and blanket being stashed there. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ea1616ea2.jpeg Swiss A330 economy bulkhead seat 23K Seat did feel pretty narrow (flew a UA 737 after this leg and that seat felt very similar, aka 17.3" perhaps?). Tray table of course was swing-up from the center armrest. Because the 23J tray is in a similar spot, the remote for that seat's IFE actually protrudes into the left hip-space of 23J by a good inch or so. I never used my remote since the swing-up monitor is so close. Screen was small, with low rez and the touch response was sluggish but worked fine. Forgot my two-pin adapter so had to use the very flimsy earbuds provided, which for 2.5 hours of watching was okay. If I''d wanted to watch IFE for most of the flight, I'd have really regretted the Swiss buds. I didn't get much of a chance to look at 29DEFG, but that legroom might be a bit smaller than row 22 center bulkhead? It definitely did not appear to be able to function as a cross-aisle, so unlike some layouts on A330s (I'm most familiar with Delta) one really can't easily go from the lav pair on aisle 2 to access the pair on aisle 1 unless making the trek to the rear galley. Full flight, so there were lav queues a couple times, but not bad. Also unlike DL, the Swiss cabin crew left the lights on, in a somewhat bright but soothing organgey-red tone for the entire 9+ hour westbound day flight. Wasn't a bother with eye shades on for napping, but also not enough light to read my book without additional light. That said, I didn't feel bad about having my window shade up a few inches (I've been mildly reprimanded for that on DL, which I tend to ignore because I want daylight to help start resetting my circadian rhythm) since the cabin isn't otherwise pitch-dark on the day crossing. Food was fine, and about sufficient for the duration (main lunch on level-off, ice cream service halfway, small but hearty cheese quiche near arrival). I did not go aft to look for snacks as I'd brought a few in my easy-to-grab from the cubby backpack. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3162e3263.jpeg Chicken, creamy barley, green beans, with couscous salad, roll, cheese and a cherry cake dessert. Real silverware is a plus! |
I asked about the throne seat no longer being free at checkin. Agent at zhr lounge just said there were always "reservation" seats and " no reservation" seats..maybe it was lost in translation but thus didn't tell me much.
Plane had several single seats at checking, but cabin went out full. If people don't buy them, do they upgrade folks? Anybody know how that works? |
JFK-ZRH (A330) 5K or 14K? I understand 5K is more private but isn’t footwell narrower than 14K ?

Both have footwells that are open to the window side and not restricted by having two seats directly in front. 5K is in the minicabin, 14K is the last row of C so closer to Y and to the engines. |

Mirrors my experiencce. had 3 flights in J in Jan and thrones where never released for free. Would be currious to see how they are allocated. Seems really strange that the way to get one would be to NOT book a seat and hope you are bumped into a throne. I don't care that much for thrones, but it just seems very strange.

Is the seat pitch on the Helvetic Embraer 190 E2 in Y all the same (apart from Exit Row and Bulkhead) or do seats at the back have less space? I am flying into LCY and I am considering to sit in one of the last rows, if the pitch is the same all over Y.
