I don't have enough experience with the single seats, as I only travel with my wife :D. we only once took the throne seats each and enjoyed it. From a storage-perspective you have much more room in the throne seats.

I think I'll keep my current seak, 11K and call it a day.
I've flown in the throne a few times, it is nice, but I find it a little restrictive.

Just flew in seats 5D and 5G on the A340-300. This is the last row of the two-row mini business class cabin that this thread refers to. I wouldn’t recommend these seats as the galley is right behind and there is lots of noise that comes through the galley wall at dinner and breakfast prep. Tough to sleep! The aisle seats in row 5 should be better, as they only have washrooms behind. Row 4 would be quieter and would be my choice. The first class cabin has 2 rows and sits directly in front of the mini cabin, separated by a wall. A bonus of the mini cabin is that the FA’s hold back the main business cabin on deboarding and so you get off the plane first.

First only has 2 rows.

Its a bit of a crap shoot. I've have super quiet flights in the mini business cabin, but some not so much. The same for the main cabin. Sometimes you just get a noisy crew or noisy passnegers...or both. I don't sleep much on planes, so I'm not a reference for sleep.

Checking the LX 777-300ER seat map for an upcoming flight where we will be sitting in Economy. After logging in to my booking I can see some of the seats on rows 27-34 are so-called XL seats that can be reserved for CHF 99. Row 27 I can understand is designated as XL due to the bulkhead or divider to PE, but on rows 28-34 only seats D, E, F, G are XL seats, while A, B, C and H, J and K are not. Does anyone know what makes the seats in the middle "XL"? More legroom?

Yes, more legroom.

Look at https://www.aerolopa.com/lx-773-4cl which is pretty accurate with the different seat pitches.

Brilliant, that's a nice seat map. Thanks!

Lucky me, I managed to secure 5K in the stübli for my YUL - ZRH on Thursday.

I've done that route many times, but always in the main J cabin. actually, it will be my first time in the stübli ever. Hooray for me.

Beware - I was deboarded once becasue I was in 4A JFK-ZRH, to conect to TLV on LX and pax in 5 A and C put there carryon above me despite Locker Signed 4A Maitre D'Cabine chose to deboard me over French Swiss behind me. After beboarding, spent night upper west side and bought myself a JFK-MUC-TLV full C fare where i was with Jeff Goldblum From Israel to Greece to Australia on a full Qatar C fare. Swiss are lucky they were bought by Lufthansa after 2 bankruptcies. And as we all know, even in Swiss First cabin crew are German, not Swiss

Sounds like a sh*t show, but I'm sure I'll be fine.

Unbelievable. What did you do then? The best way to deal with this situation is to leave your rule matching handluggage in the aisle and let the cabin crew deal with it. This is what I am doing with a smile. btw: I am Swiss German and find your remarks quite confusing. Everybody can choose his/her airline. I am always choosing LH group.

As I posted, I bought a Business Class fare with Lufthansa when went back to my hotel after deboarding, for next day JFK-MUC-TLV back then Lufti still did wide bodies and A346 MUC-TLV after 744 from JFK-MUC . Great expense for me, but better than flying Schwitz. The only reason some of us cose to fly Swiss was becasue of wide bodies to/from TLV, including the occasional 773ER, and we could sit in First with Business service, either as a gratis upgrade as Senator, or becasue we were often on a Swiss First connector flight to/from TLV. I prefer German and Swiss German crew anyday

Stübli mini-review

Just flew YUL-ZRH in 5K, in the Stübli.

Here are my thoughts:

As 5K is an odd-numbered seat, it is closer to the window, with the console on the aisle.
I found that the seat is VERY close to the window, so my should was essentially pressed up against the wall of the aircraft, not in an uncomfortable manner, but slightly annoying.
Anecdotally, I'm a "squisher" fellow (not obese, but I have a dad bod) so that might have been a contributing factor.

The added privacy of having just two rows and being separated from F and the main J by a curtain at both ends was lovely, service was quick and attentive, and the cabin was incredibly quiet and calm.

In the past, I've only ever flown in the Throne seats (just been lucky that I always was assigned those or able to select them). I actually found that the leg / foot space was LARGER and more comfortable in the single seat than on the throne seats.

My one complaint about the LX A330 J cabin is the hard product is really tired, it's long overdue for an update. My seat worked fine, but the guy across the aisle couldn't get his seat to recline. The cabin crew had to manually fold it down to bed mode, and then back up before landing.
I also think that a more substantial pillow would make a world of difference when it comes to sleeping, the pillow is comically thin and flimsy. Fine for lounge mode for a little extra lumbar support, but basically useless for sleeping.

Overall, LX A330 J is what I remember it to be: excellent service, quality catering, good wines, and liquors but a hard product that lags behind.

Maybe I am just spoiled being based in Montréal, 99% of my flying is on Air Canada with their signature class pods & proper bedding.
