If I as a Star Gold pay for a seat in Y and on day of departure get an operational upgrade to J, what happens to the Seat fee?

Sorry to see that you are surprised by my question. Simple answer would have been, your fee for seat selection will be refunded or no it will not be refunded.

Well if I get upgraded I usually say thank you and it wouldn't come to my mind to ask a refund for any seat reservation fees or whatsoever - the max amount you can pay for ASR is 99CHF which is be a fraction of the value added you get from an OpUp. Now the bad news is that the odds of a *G getting taht OpUp are very slim.

Ok, thanks for the info, you must not travel much. I have been upgraded 4 times on SWISS, from ZRH-BKK & SIN. It was always an oversold situation in Y. So, it does happen and I am not sure I will classify my upgrades as slim.

I am flying the A321 tomorrow and OLCI offers a pretty much open cabin; even all exit row seats still available. However I did notice that 4E is missing from the seat map.

So I positioned myself on 4D, hoping 4E would stay empty as it cannot be selected through OLCI. The generic A321 seat map offered by Swiss does contain 4E.

I would almost think that they may have decreased the size of the business cabin by one row but forgotten to unblock 4E, or something like that. Any guesses?

Lol, RTFM. I searched in this thread for the term '4E' but nothing was found. However putting 'Swiss A321 4E missing' on Google turns up..this thread! The initial post explains. Seems 4E is blocked by default, allowing me to enjoy an empty middle seat :)

Swiss seat 8K (A340-300)
 

Hello,

I'll be flying soon in Swiss (A340-300, business class) from SFO to ZRH.

All the single chairs are taken except seat 8K. On Swiss website it has a comment "limited comfort".

I was wondering how is this seat. I've seen some comments that this seat doesn't have a window. But is this the only "problem" with that seat?
My other option of course is taking a seat in the middle section (e.g., D).

This is for the LX seating thread but the limited comfort in this case only means the missing window. The seat is as good as all other C seats (bar the even better ones, see at thread!).

Best D seats are the bulkhead ones, otherwise 8K is as good.

As you understand, 8K is the seat with misaligned windows.

For the first flight I'll take 8K then (instead of 8D).

For the return flight I can have both 8K and 12K. Both seems to be similar.

The seat in the picture in the post above looks like an odd numbered K seat, probably 7K.

Not a big fan of the even numbered K seats, as they have the open armrest towards the aisle, but it still beats middle section if travelling by yourself. Perhaps at time of OLCI some other seats open up. Good luck

Exactly. Which day are you flying and I can look up the seating chart on expertflyer. Swiss reserves the best seats for their own elite so when you look at the seat choices, it'll show those as "taken", when really they might not be. GDS, however, will show them as available for premium only.

Within 24 hours, all seats become fair game, so you can hopefully grab an odd numbered K seat (or an even A).

There are better seats for Senators
 

There are better seats available for Senators. The funny thing is that I am a LH Senator, but for this flight I prefer collecting miles in my United account.

Is there still a way for me to get a Senator seat, but collect miles with my United number?

Register your SEN card, select the seat, then 24 hours before departure check-in, change your card to UA and pray that the miles end up in your UA account.
