I'm speaking on the TLV-ZRH route.

What flight?
Generally when a long haul aircraft is used on a route where they only sell 2 classes, first class is closed and seats cannot be chosen. Depending on the route, first class seats may be chosen at checkin at the airport against cash (I recall something around 750 USD for a single flight on the CAI route when still served by A340 before switching to A32X.) When F is not in use, as on B777 on the intra-european routes for the moment, the crew may give a F seat at discretion to HON Circle members. |

TLV-ZRH route...
On the way back TLV-ZRH on award tickets its I think US$700 to sit in F They always have a sign up at checkin at Ben Gurion On a recent award flight ZRH-TLV in C asked at gate and told no seats in F possible So unless you pay for it or unless youve connected from an intercontinental F flight on LX (??LH) they wont let you sit in F |
The LX policy for ZRH-TLV is here:
The comfort of the SWISS First seat at a special low price, on our flights operated by Airbus A330/A340 As a First Class passenger, you get to enjoy the highest possible level of comfort. Take off relaxed, travel in comfort and land feeling refreshed. With our First Class Upgrade, any confirmed Business Class passenger can now enjoy the ultimate seat comfort* of our SWISS First cabin on the Tel Aviv- Zurich route for only USD 299.- And on Zurich –Tel-Aviv for only CHF 299.- Passengers holding First Class tickets with connections via Zurich are entitled to First Class seats with no extra fee. HON Circle members will be able to book these seats free of charge during check-in, if space is available. Reservation and purchase of the First Class seat can be made only during check-in at the airport. |
Sorry mixed up the amount - Ive never actually paid it, just see the placard up every time at checkin at Ben Gurion TLV Def looking forward to the777W in F although it seems it wont be possible for a while to/from TLV :-(( Certailny not on my next holiday in Israel/EU/USA So I will have to fly from LAX instead of SFO via ZRH from AU And no more UA Globa lFirst to from UA :-(( |
Tried to book seats in the mini cabin (row 4 and 5) for party of 3 on B777.
Agent says that the system returns 'all stubli seats are only for SEN/HON'. Companions not allowed there. Agent agree that there probably is some IT glitch due to switch to Amadeus. Sounds reasonable. What do you guys think? I am SEN. |

Sounds reasonable. What do you guys think? I am SEN. Well, isn't that funny. I am experiencing the exact same issue. Booked a flight last night and could not place all 3 of us in row 4 for the life of me. Tried different browsers and was always given some "technical error, please try again later". I thought I'd give it a try again this morning, but no luck. I am gonna call today. The system still seems buggy to me. I could not select the title "Mrs." for my wife, only "Ms.", she will be happy to see she's a Fräulein again. ;) Edited to add: Next try online: I could reserve 3 "SEN/HON only" seats in the larger cabin - 8K, 10K and 12K, so the "SEN companions" are recognized properly in the larger C cabin. |
Let me know if/when you get any success!
I was asked to call back in a week...:( |

In English Ms. is a neutral (not distinguishing between married and unmarried) way of addressing ladies. Fräulein would be Miss.
http://www.goliath.li/forums/frauelein.JPG I don't think I've seen this in Amadeus before. Usually we are Herr, Frau and Miss in German or MR, MRS and MISS in English. No issue, really. |

I was asked to call back in a week...:( Still, at the moment, I don't see these seats if I pull up the reservation on LX.com or on Checkmytrip - the sites show no seats reserved for us on this leg, so I'll give it a few hours and then we shall see... |

Ok, so I called the SEN Hotline in Switzerland. The agent first got an error: "specific seat request not available", but after a couple of minutes on hold she got back to me confirming 4ADG. She said she had to "circumvent something in the system".

Thanks for the feedback. Will give them a call tomorrow (SEN Hotline in Switzerland) and try to seat us as well. |

Super, hopefully it works well!
She also checked with her supervisor and the reason seems to be that one of the pax is a child - who could not sit on one of the "premium" seats (the ones marked with a yellow star on LX.com) in the Stübli / forward cabin for "safety reasons". This sounds a bit strange to me since I could place the child in any "premium" seats in the backward cabin. The agent was not sure if all of this was due to the system change or a new rule. Anyways, she was able to request two "premium" seats and one "regular" seat in the Stübli / forward cabin and we would now be in 4DG and 5G. Like on my first try, I don't see these seats if I pull up the reservation on LX.com or on Checkmytrip - the sites show no seats reserved for us on this leg. Let's see how this develops...

Well, it didn't. The agent called back in the afternoon, telling me that her request for 4ADG was denied. Only two pax could sit in row 4, so we got 4AD and 9A confirmed.

Are there children in your party as well? I will try to book us into 4JK and 5K, where only 5K is a "premium seat". Yes, I have one child in this booking as well! What more supports it to be an IT glitch is if you make a booking on Swiss.com "logged in" you can not select premium seats either, even if you are making the reservation only for you as a SEN. |

Perhaps they really apply this now, but it can also be one of the many glitches with the new system. Personally I prefer any child to obnoxious "business" travellers. But it is easier to single out children than the latter  |
