You can't cause LATAM is not a partner airline.

You can only redeem miles on Star Alliance, Vistara, and the three Virgins. You could also exchange miles for vouchers to be used on the LCC subdiaries; Scoot (TZ) and Tigerair (TR).

That's true. I always group them together with SQ since the mileage redemption are the same as compared to partner airlines.

can anyone tell me why the taxes+fees for the SQ Krisflyer redemption for the below journey vary so much? my main question is abt the SFO-HKG-SIN (~$44) flight versus the others (>$200++)

this is what i get online:

SFO-SIN (A-350 direct)
1 Adult
68,000 KrisFlyer miles
+ USD 274.03

SFO-HKG-SIN
1 Adult
68,000 KrisFlyer miles
+ USD 44.03

LAX-NRT-SIN
1 Adult
68,000 KrisFlyer miles
+ USD 269.03

LAX-ICN-SIN
1 Adult
68,000 KrisFlyer miles
+ USD 253.40

-------------------------------------

second question, if i book one of the more expensive taxes+fees itinerary now (e.g., SFO-ICN-SIN), but later on, there is an award availability opening up for the SFO-HKG-SIN flight, will i be able to receive full refund for the >$200 taxes+fees amount i have paid for the first time such that in the end i only pay the ~$44?

what are the steps i should take - (a) do i just change the award (ie, pay $12), or (b) do i need to pay to have the itinerary cancelled and miles redeposited (ie, pay $30) and then rebook again?

I remember it's due to no or lesser fuel surcharges while transiting HKG. That is why CX redemptions have very low taxes as they need to transit HKG.

For anyone booking with a stopover, specifically SIN > FRA > JFK.

Do you normally only book ones that aren't waitlisted and can be confirmed? Or do you just waitlist 1 or both legs?

It depends on how important the date you want to travel on is.

If you can be flexible and a flight is available take it.

There is no guarantee a waitlisted flight will be confirmed.

i agree with WLG Base on this

if i were you (jayoxd), i would take the one that is available. if possible, be flexible with the travel date, instead of going through the whole waitlist ordeal.

it's kinda frustrating talking to the SQ folks to get you off the Waitlist

my past experience: i was waitlisted on multiple itineraries that involve me getting from US->SIN, then SIN to another region. then one of them (US-SIN) open up allowing me to book, but the SIN->another region flight segment still remain waitlisted. the latter is strange bc it is actually available for award booking when i search using the search engine. when contacted, the SQ KF dept CSA told me the quota has been met blah blah blah, and not willing to get me off the waitlist for the SIN->another region flight. i dont really buy the quota reasoning bc this particular flight is still 10 months away and is not considered a 'popular' segment when it comes to SQ redemption.

Sometimes the wait list works for me and then sometimes I wait list and check back and find that even though my wait list has not cleared the award is open for immediate booking. In that situation I simply book the award right away. This is why I always keep checking the dates I am interested in until I have something locked in.
