Finnair Business Class
AY 942 Bergen to Helsinki
Finnair Operated by Wideroe
This flight was operated by Wideroe on the brand new EMB-190-E2. The crews were great but since it was only the first week of this service, they were still getting used to what they were supposed to do. Wideroe was a BOB mono class operator, so this J service was new. However, everything was Finnair standard.

Thank you for interesting report!
After reading
then first thing I noticed was the foil left on the main and berry juice running from the cacke due to poor defrosting and had a big laugh.
Any thoughts on the plane itself? I like the Embraers, but haven't flown this.

It seems like Finnair's approach to business class food is "simple but tasty". HEL-ZRH on May 20.

Gravlax starter, and a hamburg steak with mashed potatoes for a main course. But the spicing was just right, and I enjoyed this entire dish. It seems like they don't give out printed menus anymore on European flights, so unfortunately I don't have a picture of that to give.

Breakfast on CPH-HEL
A new variation for me with small piece chicken filet. Rsti was delicious.

Some oddities on the service. There was only 1 row of business, purser choose to prioritize the CX silver that got op-up to 1D. Coffee, tea was served before drinks.

Here is today's meal on HEL-CPH . Everything in order upon serving it and purser also wanted to present the meal to me, which we all think is a good idea because they no longer have the menu cards. Anyway, meal was presented as "this is chicken" (and I am sure that was all purser knew, so why not get the menu cards back, ey?)
So, let the guessing game begin!

Starter is a regular salmon, with grass tasting leafs and mustard seeds. Hidden underneath the salmon is a rather clever cabbage salad (coleslaw style) with grated horseradish in the mix. Salmon was a bit vanilla, but the overall impression was very good. IMO, the dish deserved a different green, perhaps som cress would have topped it of perfectly. This sharp, raw grass taste greens let the dish down entirely.

Main course was as already told "chicken" but the rest? My first guess on the yellow dollop was placenta, err sorry, polenta. But man was I wrong. It was a saffron rice pilaf. Tasty, and worked extremely well with the green stuff, as there was something sweet in the greens to balance and complement the saffron. However, as the pilaf was the staple, there wasn't enough green to go with all rice and so I felt the saffron taste was a bit much in the end. Still, a million times better than the barley stuff they used to put on every dish.
Brown stuff was sauce (perhaps with mushrooms?) and green stuff unknown to me, with some different seeds. I can't tell what the sweet in the green was either, it was like apple a bit. Chicken was breaded and decently tender, but the thing that left an impression was blending the rice and greens.

Dessert is blueberry "pie", but with a dry and soft texture, like taking shortcrust or puff pastry dough and not fully bake it. (We used to make similar pastry when I was younger, but more in style of cookies, with currants as the "berry", and if one didn't bake them fully they got this soft texture)

Without any sarcasm, it is really nice to see how far they've come within a year with the quality of the food on Euro J! Now if only those damn menu cards would find their way back to the cabin...

i haf same dinner on HEL KEF and also loved it.
i am pretty impresed with AY meal for intra EU based on my limited exprience... you regular might moan about low quality but trust me they are doing the right thing. grass is always greener on other side but AY deserves merit for their work.
i personally think menu card is a waste of enviornment. i am pretty conscious to leave the planet in better state for mext generation.. i rather not have menu for short haul, yes it has feel good factor but the trees i save is even.better... perhaps AY shud make announce something like "lack of menu cards om this flight saved 4 trees in the forsest of our beautiful Laplands" to put into prospective.

I'm not a save the trees and meat is murder type of person at all, and I would love a menu card in Euro J. Wouldn't need to be anything fancy, just a simple A6 with English on one side and Finnish on the other.
In Economy, the food is very basic and it's no hard task finding out what you're being served. Pasta, tomato sauce, chicken... But in J, oftentimes (some of) the ingredients are not too obvious.
By the way, QR has menu cards in Y, as well...

On the "save the tree" thing, just remember that a non-marginal part of GDP in these parts of the woods comes from turning trees into paper, in a sustainable way. So it is like telling China not to harvest so much rice...
A better oral presentation can go a long way, but because AY is now doing more fancy stuff in business, I think a simple A6 menu card would do wonders. A lot of the message can get lost in translation and enginge noise. (Some of you may have heard about my "beef with onion" on CA which turned out to be a prime cœur de filet with primeurs )
